my apt has smoke detectors built in, and whenever lightning strikes near here (to where I hear thunder), the smoke detector will "squeak"

I doubt it's ionization, because it's nearly instantaneous with the visible flash.Most likely it's an induced effect, but it seems like a poor design (and is annoying)
