They must not have herpetologists to consult in Greece.

What probably happened is the frogs bred a few weeks ago in a nearby pond, and now the tadpoles are morphing into frogs all at once, and once they morph into frogs, they disperse. Spadefoot toads do the same thing, but their populations are often in rural areas where no one notices.
