Good rule of thumb when driving on the beach...never drive faster than children can run...if you're in an area with a lot of people out.
5/28/2010 10:46:10 AM
shit happens. no need to limit the ability of emergency responders due to one freak accident.
5/28/2010 10:49:43 AM
this is too longnot quoted properlyno bolded parts for easy skimmingAND NO SUMMARY
5/28/2010 10:50:54 AM
^ summary: cop runs over dood on beach
5/28/2010 10:51:29 AM
Yeah this thread is bullshit.
5/28/2010 10:51:37 AM
In a preemptive defense of my opinions in the previous and somewhat related thread (see "Trooper Goodnight is a god damn murderer") I believe that this is ridiculous and whoever ran over that guy on the beach deserves to become jobless and policies need to be changed about how fast people can drive on the beach when chasing speeders after people who are drowning[Edited on May 28, 2010 at 10:53 AM. Reason : but he shouldn't be charged with anything ridiculous like assault with intent to kill]
5/28/2010 10:51:47 AM
I wouldn't say that he needs to be fired, however the policy should definitely be changed.
5/28/2010 10:53:07 AM
rabble rabble something about depth perception at 120mph rabble rabble
5/28/2010 10:56:27 AM
just switch to 4 wheelers.
5/28/2010 10:56:33 AM
Why the fuck would they be using SUVs on a beach in the first place? Seems like an ATV or a motorcycle would be entirely better-suited for the job anyway, regardless of speed limitations.
5/28/2010 10:56:50 AM
Motorcycle? I don't think so, definitely ATV though (although it's harder to transport injured people off the beach on the back of either of those)
5/28/2010 10:57:46 AM
5/28/2010 11:00:59 AM
Here's the question, was the cop, himself, going to go out there into the ocean? Or is he going to let the lifeguard do it?If not, why the fuck does he need to get there that fast?
5/28/2010 11:05:06 AM
5/28/2010 11:05:27 AM
dood on the beach failed to yield to the cop's SUV
5/28/2010 11:06:20 AM
^gg
5/28/2010 11:08:24 AM
Nah the cop doesn't need to be fired, but he should probably learn that driving fast on a crowded beach is never something that should happen.Kids go running to the ocean not looking for cars, because they are on the beach. That could have easily been a 4 year old kid running to get a bucket of water to fill up the hole he dug.I think this is just an example of a cop that isn't thinking about all the civilians around when he is called to an emergency. There is no reason to cause another emergency by trying to get to one.
5/28/2010 11:11:24 AM
5/28/2010 11:12:50 AM
the sunbather clearly should have yielded to the lightsclearly
5/28/2010 11:14:13 AM
5/28/2010 11:14:42 AM
Sounds like cell phones need to be banned if anything.
5/28/2010 11:15:05 AM
For some reason I can't ever see someone saying "Nah the cab driver doesn't need to be fired, but he should probably learn that driving fast on a crosswalk is never something that should happen."
5/28/2010 11:15:10 AM
5/28/2010 11:17:19 AM
^What I meant by that is that he shouldn't lose his job, but he should be put on desk duty, he should have the ability to drive on the beach taken away.
5/28/2010 11:18:06 AM
5/28/2010 11:18:22 AM
I think everyone should have the ability to drive on the beach taken away.
5/28/2010 11:18:33 AM
5/28/2010 11:19:27 AM
Andymac he's trolling you
5/28/2010 11:19:47 AM
ATVs can't carry all of the necessary gear to do all aspects of the job. We have a mixture of ATVs and pickups here with the main patrol being ATVs. It is not uncommon though for a pickup to need to quickly get to a location w/ backboards, o2, various other supllies, and even jet skis, and they will go at reasonably quick speeds up and down the beach if they need to and it's safe to do so as well.
5/28/2010 11:19:58 AM
For some reason I can't ever see someone saying "Nah the pro baseball player doesn't need to be fired, but he should probably learn that pitching baseballs at 120 mph to people with bad depth perception is never something that should happen"
5/28/2010 11:20:02 AM
haha no! I love driving on the beach.I mean the guy made a mistake. He wasn't looking at his surroundings and he showed his inability to make the right choice on impulse.
5/28/2010 11:20:18 AM
^^Those situations aren't analogous, and you know it.[Edited on May 28, 2010 at 11:20 AM. Reason : ]
5/28/2010 11:20:28 AM
Its also pretty hard to miss a large SUV with flashing lights driving on the beach even when you are trying not to pay attention.
5/28/2010 11:21:59 AM
That's the whole point. Neither is a situation where a cabby is driving on the sidewalk.
5/28/2010 11:22:26 AM
Police SUVs don't need to be taken off the beach, but the police who are driving them need to realize that the beach is not a road and people aren't on the look out for vehicles driving up and down the beach. If you take the SUVs away then people will complain when there isn't one there when one could have been used.
5/28/2010 11:22:42 AM
I literally can't think of a situation in which you'd need an SUV on the beach.
5/28/2010 11:23:13 AM
5/28/2010 11:23:14 AM
All this talk about baseball is making me sleepy *yawn*
5/28/2010 11:24:02 AM

5/28/2010 11:26:21 AM
5/28/2010 11:27:16 AM
Yeah...ATV's are great for patrolling, but there are times when you need things that an ATV is not big enough to carry.
5/28/2010 11:28:40 AM
I'm thinking the police are doing a run and someone is sleeping in the sand or buried by the kids or something not sitting in a chaise lounge.
5/28/2010 11:44:58 AM
Clearly this is the dude's fault, clearly.
5/28/2010 11:56:48 AM
