i don't see a problem here
6/2/2010 10:28:53 AM
6/2/2010 10:40:49 AM
I just thought this was to make 2% of their user base (that they don't want) jump ship to Verizon, while making their prices more competitive.
6/2/2010 10:42:20 AM
yeah it's not like they're going to be losing money on this or anything
6/2/2010 10:42:28 AM
All of the cell companies are likely going to a tiered data structure.
6/2/2010 10:42:50 AM
And the overages are what they're after in the guise of saving the consumer money.HORSE HOCKEY
6/2/2010 10:43:25 AM
i love how they're spinning this as a customer advantage. let's cap everyone, for the good of everyone! hey, and we'll let you save $5 for your trouble!
6/2/2010 10:44:35 AM
^^^^ yeah i would assume it's inevitable...though i'm not surprised at&t is leading the charge.Sprint has cheap plans with unlimited data and tethering though, I wonder how they get away with it at the moment? not as many smartphone users (read: data consumers) on their network?]
6/2/2010 10:45:32 AM
as a man of the internet, this angers me.fortunately, i do not use at&t.
6/2/2010 10:46:43 AM
i be tethering on dat verizon network right now
6/2/2010 10:46:55 AM
^^^ yeah, verizon has already announced that their 4G won't be "unlimited" but apparently LTE data should be a lot cheaper than the current Evdo data.
6/2/2010 10:51:12 AM
for a minute i thought i was in Tech Talkand i never go to Tech Talk
6/2/2010 10:55:26 AM
6/2/2010 10:56:49 AM
I don't see Sprint following suit. There are not any profits in voice service anymore which is why they want to milk all of the can off the data. Also I think they just want people to use the wifi connections on their phone instead of streaming hours of Pandora and video over the wireless network.
6/2/2010 11:00:37 AM
looking at my trending... i could do the 2 gig... whoopie saves me $5 a month
6/2/2010 11:00:38 AM
6/2/2010 11:03:02 AM
i could go the 2gb route too, but in november of 09 i used 4gb of internet. that bill would had been $1200 with thier current proprosal of $.50 per mb over the 2 gb...
6/2/2010 11:05:05 AM
But what percentage of that could you have been using wifi instead?
6/2/2010 11:06:37 AM
On my last bill I only downloaded 100MB but could easily see myself greatly exceeding that as I plan on using Pandora more in the future.
6/2/2010 11:07:01 AM
That really pisses me off about Tethering. There were supposed that to have that access months ago.
6/2/2010 11:11:51 AM
I've been around 175-200mb the last 8 monthsso basically, this saves me $15... HOORAY
6/2/2010 11:14:00 AM
free tethering with pdanet on android for all sites except https. <$20 one-time fee to get registered version of pdanet so you can tether to any site.
6/2/2010 11:14:06 AM
root+wireless tethering > pdanet.
6/2/2010 11:14:55 AM
pdanet will do that too
6/2/2010 11:15:52 AM
why is this thread here?are you not allowed to use smilies and cuss words in Tech Talk?[Edited on June 2, 2010 at 11:17 AM. Reason : sdfsd]
6/2/2010 11:17:25 AM
well right now the only android phone that you can use 3G and have root access on AT&T's network without developer tools is the nexus one... which you can't buy with a contract so you'd have to pay like 550 for itso far this billing period (13/31 days in) i've used 408.10 MB of my unlimited]
6/2/2010 11:17:51 AM
People LOVE to complain...thats all I'm seeing out of this announcement.
6/2/2010 11:17:53 AM
shush old lady. You're still in the stone age with that centro.
6/2/2010 11:18:11 AM
yep...and i have unlimited everything for $30/month
6/2/2010 11:18:49 AM
6/2/2010 11:21:39 AM
p33n?
6/2/2010 11:22:31 AM
ok...well...everything except the dong
6/2/2010 11:25:01 AM
6/2/2010 11:27:32 AM
it isnt in tech talk cause i didnt want it in tech talk.its sorta a bitching thrad, so if anywhere it should be in TSB but i didnt want it there either...
6/2/2010 11:29:10 AM
6/2/2010 11:32:54 AM
a little over estimating...2000mb X .5 = 1000 + 140 (regular access bill) = 1140.00 rounded up to 1200i didnt see the above post. but what happenes between 3 and 4, is another 1 gb just another $10?the post i read talked about overages at $.49 per mb, but wasnt a reliable source...so for $45 you get tethering and 2 gb... that sucks...[Edited on June 2, 2010 at 11:42 AM. 6/2/2010 11:36:29 AM
Will this be affecting my blackberry?
6/2/2010 11:47:02 AM
^^ looks like it's just a $10 flat rate for each additional GB over the 2GB limit.^ Seems to be smartphones in general.
6/2/2010 11:58:48 AM
you don't have to change your plan.
6/2/2010 12:11:09 PM
you do if you upgrade phones, or resign a contract.
6/2/2010 12:16:41 PM
no you don't.
6/2/2010 12:40:37 PM
i read some of this thread but didn't see this addressed : how will this effect Skype users?
6/2/2010 12:42:08 PM
This would save me money currently as well, as I dont think Ive ever been over 150MB...although Im still on a first gen plan, so it would still only save me $5...Regardless, Im still getting an EVO in two days.
6/2/2010 1:14:30 PM
let me know how that EVO works for ya, im looking at one also...
6/2/2010 1:19:55 PM
Im surprised it took them this long to do this.
6/2/2010 1:21:56 PM
i share your surprise - tethering seemed the LAST thing AT&T would ever do, the tiered structure was a forgone conclusion, but i predict it won't last more than say 5-10 years then everything will be totally unlimited everything (assuming of course that other companies continue on that trend).
6/2/2010 2:01:03 PM
6/2/2010 2:23:46 PM
do not like, yoiu may not use more than 2gb of data now, but i remember when i thought a 650mb cd rom was big and that wanst long ago.
6/4/2010 7:23:16 AM
I am glad to know I will no longer be subsidizing the nerds that use 20x more bandwidth than me and I will be paying $5 less than what I currently pay. For right now I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that as wireless data usage increases they will adjust their plans accordingly.
