since 2005 (around then) i've gone through NOW 4 dvd players (this could be the 5th i don't remember - either way, that is ridiculous to go through almost a DVD player a year)the first 3 were really cheap shitty non-name brand ones so i guess i wasn't exactly shocked when they just stopped workingbut now i just tried to use my phillips dvd player and it just makes this clicking sound. i can't remember the last time i used it - probably like a month ago. what is the deal? it just sits there on the shelf. it hasn't moved. i haven't left it on accidentally for too long. what gives? i guess the first 3 were my fault for buying shitty things but i know other people who have non name brand electronics that don't break after a few months. this one i think i've had for like a year and a half. BUT WTF?!?! am i cursed?

The DVD player I bought from some crackhead in Wilson a few years ago just broke. I attribute it to me getting into an argument and forgetting it was on for like two days. Now it turn on, but no ready read of discs.
but mine wasn't onnnnthis makes me a sad panda if they're all going to break i guess i'll just go back to the shitty brands.

Don't buy another DVD player. It would be like buying a VCR.
6/4/2010 9:38:11 PM
Now is the time to buy a combo VCR/DVD player. You can dub VHS tapes from your DVDs then.
6/4/2010 9:39:24 PM
^^ i don't think so yet^ that was the very first one i had and it broke. do they even make those anymore loli mean i don't want to spend $140 on a blu ray player right now i just want to watch my cot damn dvds. can you watch movies on wii? you can't can you. cause i want a wii. sad. nothing adds up for me! Get you a blu-ray player. Don't buy a shitty one. Don't treat it like ass.
6/5/2010 2:06:35 AM
BUT I BARELY USED THE DVD PLAYER!and i can't afford the luxury of blu ray right nowso hmphbut i wish i had one cause then i could netflix instant watch on my TV! we got my dad one for christmas. well 1/2 of one. i paid for over half and my brother never coughed up the rest of the money so my dad technically paid for the other half himself. he picked it out so he bought it, i wrapped it, and gave him like $80 but my bro never paid up. HMPH

netflix on it is a nice plus. some also have things like pandora/slacker if you use either of those and/or like to use your tv/surround sound as a music playeridk if you're into gaming, but consoles dvd players don't just up and break. my circa 2002 xbox still plays dvds like a pro (of course I haven't used it since I got my 360). i'm sure ps3's aren't terrible dvd/blu-ray players.

DVD PLAYERS: HOW DO THEY WORK?
6/5/2010 3:23:08 AM
^^ if you could watch movies on a wii i'd be sold. cause i want a wii, too. then i could justify spending the $$$ cause it'd be like 2 things in one! but i don't have a need for an xbox or ps3 sadly. i mean i barely even used my dead dvd player so i guess since i have a computer i can live without. isn't there a cord that i can connect my computer to my tv with or somethinggg?! ^ haha. that actually made me lol.

^ But for real, some manufacturers use components that aren't quite up to spec so that they fail just after the warranty is up. A capacitor will work fine for a while if the voltage applied to it is a little higher than it was designed for, but over time that extra stress will cause it to fail.

yea i have a kinda old tv so i'm not holding my breath loli know hdmi is nonexistant on my tvi don't really know what the others are though
6/5/2010 3:33:18 PM
get you a VGA-Composite cable. 99% of tv's probably have composite unless it's REALLY old. I'd imagine a similar% of computers have VGAit may or may not work depending on your video card though]
