6/10/2010 4:17:13 PM
she undertook a large challengeshe might have failed and died in the processit sucks but this is what happens when people try to accomplish outlandishly hard things
6/10/2010 4:18:34 PM
Or she faked her death so that she could begin life anew as the great white queen of the Somali pirates.
6/10/2010 4:18:53 PM
I wish I could sail around the world from my laptop
6/10/2010 4:19:48 PM
SHE'S NOT IN THE BALLOON SAILBOAT
6/10/2010 4:20:29 PM
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you. Marko: Good luck.

From her blog:
6/10/2010 4:37:24 PM
I've seen 16 year old girls drive. She was probably texting or trying to play some Katy Perry on her iPod.
6/10/2010 4:38:34 PM
That sucks
6/10/2010 4:38:41 PM
She's a goner.

6/10/2010 4:44:46 PM

brb, registering the movie rights to this:Girl goes on a sail around the world, gets kidnapped by pirates who want to sell her in the human trafficking business, her father (Jason Statham? Liam Neeson? Mark Whalberg? Bruce Campbell?) buys a boat and starts scouring the oceans looking for the pirate scum who stole his little girl. Kills everyone, saves the day... May or may not die as a result.
6/10/2010 5:02:05 PM
joel and i have been back and forth on this via facebook all damned day.in the end we concluded that letting your child go unsupervised into some of the worst seas anywhere is just negligent.
6/10/2010 5:02:49 PM
Nah, he's right. PROTECT YOUR KIDS FROM EVERYTHING, BECAUSE IF (GOD FORBID) THEY GET HURT, EVERYONE IS GOING TO THINK YOU'RE A TERRIBLE PARENT
6/10/2010 5:08:28 PM

For the folks claiming parental negligence, consider the fact that she's been training practically from birth to do this. I hope she's safe and sound in her Gumby suit.

I would assume a plane or helicopter would be the first course of action, but what do i know?
6/10/2010 6:27:39 PM
what can an airplane do anyway? use binoculars and see if shes on the boat? drop supplies? i dont understand how that helps besides confirming if shes alive or not... which a ship can do too, just a little slower.

i dont think a plane like that can make it to her location in 4 hours.. maybe im wrongthats why i didnt assume it was a seaplane
6/10/2010 7:16:07 PM
Im not much of a sailor, hate jellyfish, salt, and boredom. But in real sports this is called "parents forcing a kid to play a sport" when the kid burns out and just gives up.I really doubt it's in anyone's DNA to want to do something that's already been done before just so they can attend better cocktail parties later in life.I think people mistake "risky adrenaline fueled adventures" for legitimate accomplishments.Just do drugs instead, you'll get a better high at a cheaper price without as much risk...
