http://www.city-data.com/forum/raleigh-durham-chapel-hill-cary/266135-you-know-you-raleigh-if.htmlmakes me wish I was born and raised in Raleigh. i can't wait til they open the North Hills time capsule in 2017. i didn't know that there was a Keebler plant across from Costco (which used to be a Pepsi plant) and beside the Keebler plant was a KMart (where the Staples is now). There used to be a Fast Fare on campus on Hillsborough Street. The Harris Teeter at Cameron Village used to be a Sears. Crabtree Mall, when it opened, was the largest mall between D.C. and Atlanta. Zeppelin and Kiss played Dorton Arena.where was Barry's II on Hillsborough St? Was it where Pi Bar (or whatever it is now) is?

Food Lion on Western used to be a BEST products. The empty lot above Crabtree used to be a Brendles (sp?). Not sure what happened between Brendles and destruction.Beansprout Chinese was a Snoopy's once-upon-a-time.Another Snoopy's on Capital Blvd is now a used car dealership.Ten Ten Chinese used to be a Golden Corral.Darryl's and Swenson's were awesome. The blue O in Cameron Village (don't think it's been gone that long).Wasn't the Walmart on Glenwood a K-mart (that was destroyed by the great Raleigh tornado)?I need to ponder some more.

Raleigh Native.Born at Wake Med.I remember when there was a Big Star in that Townridge shopping center on Creedmoore and Six Forks.I remember Dillard's Store on leesville Road.Hell, during the big snow storm in 1996 through I rode my horse up to the Food Lion at Pinecrest. There used to be a wooden railing on the balcony at Crabtree...Hmm....OH there used to be a PICADILLY at crabtree when I was really little...we would go eat dinner there. There was also this dope ass breakfast spot my dad always took me to where the Days Inn is now on Glenwood. There was a K-Mart on Glenwood where Walmart is now, but it got leveled by a tornado in 1988 (I think?)The local stories get even better when my dad tells me about how they would get from The Office Tavern, where Lilly's is now at five points, all the way out to Durham, on their motorcycles, in less than 10 minutes. Then again, my family is from Wake County all the way back to the 1700s.

my younger brother and sister were born at Rex Hospital, back when it was on Wade Avenue where the unemployment office is. i would have been born there, too, except my dad was in the military overseas at that time, and my mom was with him for a year.i remember going to Crabtree Mall when i was about 4. it was a tiny thing then. Sears had some video games inside i would try to play while my mom shopped.

I remember the builders of Crossroads claiming the same thing. Then they failed to secure funding and it turned into a giant strip mall. There was one guy who refused to sell when they were buying land for Crossroads. They cleared everything around him until he was left living in a small forested island in the middle of a giant field of barren red clay.
