6/21/2010 7:26:01 AM
Where's Durham?
6/21/2010 7:35:15 AM
I'm surprised to see charlotte ranked above philly.
6/21/2010 7:39:01 AM
^, ^^ lol yeah I would have figured Durham to be more dangerous than Charlotte. Another reason to call shenanigans.I bet it's because it's using the stupid system of metro area rather than within city limits. Chapel Hill and Raleigh would balance out Durham. It would also explain how St. Louis isn't on the list.[Edited on June 21, 2010 at 7:45 AM. Reason : s]
6/21/2010 7:41:16 AM
what about LA? i've seen enough early 90's rap videos to know for a fact that LA is a dangerous place to be.
6/21/2010 7:44:31 AM
6/21/2010 7:47:56 AM
Yeah. No L.A. = no credibility
6/21/2010 7:48:29 AM
6/21/2010 7:55:19 AM
Just seems to be a lot more news stories about violent crime in Durham than Charlotte. Although I guess the news networks in the Triangle don't give a shit about Charlotte in general
6/21/2010 7:58:51 AM
I didn't even notice Charlotte was on there. You see posts on here all the time (no I'm not going to find them) that there's muggings, murders, and even house robberies of TWWers on here coming out of Durham. There's a lot of Charlottwwrs on here and I've never heard of one getting so much as getting a stink eye on the street.[Edited on June 21, 2010 at 8:01 AM. Reason : lkj]
6/21/2010 8:00:54 AM
What TWWer was murdered?this is the first i've heard of it.
6/21/2010 8:02:22 AM
sorry, knew it was going to be unclear there are stories of muggings and murders in Durham. There was a thread and multiple recounts of the homes of a few TWWers getting robbed in Durham as well.[Edited on June 21, 2010 at 8:03 AM. Reason : lkj]
6/21/2010 8:03:37 AM
lawlI have a buddy from high school from charlotte currently serving life in prison for murder. I know others that have been robbed at gunpoint, raped, beat up, etc....But you're right. These things rarely come up in conversation on TWW.
6/21/2010 8:05:21 AM
Honestly the only accounts I remember recently are from some of BigEgo's posts and a few from conversation with Fareako. Both of those were non-descript.I guess most TWWers who live in Charlotte make enough to not have to live in the shitty parts
6/21/2010 8:07:21 AM
There's murders in Cary, Raleigh, and Chapel hill, too. At one point last year there were a lot more murders in Raleigh than Durham. Durham gets a bad rap because suburban white kids are afraid of black people. And there are a lot of black people in Durham. Durham was pretty sketchy 10 years ago, but it's been cleaned up a LOT since then. Kind of like NYC in the 80's vs. now.RTP blowing up + gentrification have had a lot to do with it, too.]]
6/21/2010 8:07:25 AM
epic first post
6/21/2010 8:14:34 AM
Charlotte does have plenty of violent crime. And it sucks cause some of the "projects" and ghettos are mixed in among the nicer places in town so it spills in everywhere and you can't really avoid it. Hell, wasn't someone just recently talking about how their dad and his friend were randomly confronted on the light rail on the way to work and the friend got the absolute shit beat out of him?
6/21/2010 8:15:12 AM
Last year Raleigh v. Durham
6/21/2010 8:17:30 AM
What about Atlanta?
6/21/2010 8:17:59 AM
Charleston?
6/21/2010 8:26:22 AM
i'm actually surprised no one has mentioned anything about Charleston- then again, you all might not be as naive about it as some people I knowI personally understand how bad it can be down there- hell, my first trip every down there by myself (was 17), I about got t-boned by a cop going 75+ down those little roads as he blew thru an intersection. Turns out he was going to the scene where a crack head had randomly walked by and shot up a party that was going on at a house. When the first cops and paramedics got there, he came back and shot a paramedic and a cop both in the face/back of the head[Edited on June 21, 2010 at 8:29 AM. Reason : haha well there ya go- yeah, bad drugs and poverty problems there]
6/21/2010 8:28:21 AM
Hell even the government housing I saw in Charleston looked nicer that regular housing here.
6/21/2010 8:31:35 AM
^^ Yeah Charleston doesn't much surprise me since it's one of the big drug trafficking cities in the US.
6/21/2010 8:43:26 AM

6/21/2010 9:10:59 AM
do you guys remember watching the documentary about the gangs in little rock, maybe on HBO or something?haha i guess when there is fuck all else to do in a town like that, that's what happens.

I grew up in durham playing on hollloway st every day, it's not bad. There's really just a couple parts off east durham that are sketchy at all

Ah Memphis, what a fucking shithole.

6/21/2010 9:25:14 AM
Durham isn't dangerous at all... all of the crime is between people who bring it upon themselves by being poor and in gangs, and most of that has been phased out in the last 5 years or so.Charlotte is like 90% ghetto and 10x as big as durham.I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
6/21/2010 9:26:03 AM
For comparison's sake, here's a different listing:
6/21/2010 9:26:50 AM
i take it LA isn't on there because its technically like 80 different microstatesI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.

6/21/2010 10:26:03 AM
Of course Charlotte is more dangerous than Durham...Durham busters don't want none of the HVKs]

I grew up near detroit and I can tell you that driving down the wrong street can end up badly. There were stories of suburbanites filling up at gas stations in the hood and getting robbed/killed. Also, car jacking was a likely scenario. Typically several murders a week.
