I'm not certified, but I know a thing or three about it.

If it's something small (<$500), Progress Energy has a program where you pay a few bucks a month extra on your bill, and you get up to $500 worth of electrical work for no additional cost. Then just cancel the program after you've reached the $500 limit....but that's of no use of you don't have PE

nope, but i know a thing or two considering that's the industry i'm in and all.

^^ nice tip, thanks.looks like they do ceiling fans, light fixtures etc http://progress-energy.com/custservice/flares/homewire/deluxe/index.asp

I love HomeWIRE! Definitely worth the money.
7/14/2010 10:39:38 AM
is there a difference between certified and licensed?
7/14/2010 11:05:21 AM
I have a feeling she wants a "licensed electrical contractor" which I am not. I might get that Homewire deal, have them install a ceiling fan and some new light fixtures, and then cancel it the next month. I could do it all myself, but I'd rather someone else crawl around in the 120 degree attic right now.[Edited on July 14, 2010 at 11:12 AM. Reason : s]

^ problem is they only allow $100 per year for ceiling fans and light fixtures, and there's a one month waiting period before they'll do anything

Will they run speaker wire for surround sound?
7/14/2010 5:55:45 PM
^^ In that case, nevermind.

I want someone to install a ceiling fan fixture...I could do it but my apt complex says i must have a 'licensed' electrician do it... they want me to show them thier papers and crap...ugh.. guess i'll just take the fan back and get a stand up.
