Thank goodness! Just thinking of all that good useful oil that went to waste makes me want to cry. Hopefully they can rebuild the rig quickly and get it up and running without too much trouble.
7/15/2010 5:23:27 PM
I've yet to understand why we needed to "plug the damn hole." I mean, we drill for oil, right? And oil is/was flowing at an intense rate out of this well, right? Siphon it, sell it, profit. Of course, if we're just talking about stopping the oil from leaking into the ocean, that's a different matter. And BP should be held accountable for any wrongdoing, but the company needs to keep selling its oil to be helpful to anyone on a long-term basis.
7/15/2010 6:02:00 PM
That's why they're the engineers and you're the guy who makes fun of engineers on the internet.
7/15/2010 6:02:38 PM
Siphoning fresh water from salt water is difficult enough, I'd imagine siphoning oil from contaminated water is just as difficult.
7/15/2010 6:04:05 PM
^^ Engineers? You mean, engineers who have been involved in one way or another in just about every technological catastrophe since modern engineering began? PS: Shut up.
7/15/2010 6:27:00 PM
^ Yet, because of them, we're able to actually take the step forwards to be able to put ourselves in position to have such catastrophes.
7/15/2010 6:28:55 PM
7/15/2010 6:31:26 PM
^ Plus
7/15/2010 6:34:36 PM
^^^ It's a fair point. I was simply suggesting that engineers are not demigods as some here seem to think. We need the dreamers, too. Someone has to dream it up before the engineers can build it--and then someone has to maintain it, and someone has to secure it, and someone has to administer it, and someone has to legally defend it, and so on. You see? It takes all kinds to make projects work and the world to go around.^^ Why, because you tried critical thinking for the first time? [Edited on July 15, 2010 at 6:42 PM. Reason : PS: They've been siphoning the oil for sometime now, folks. FYI. ]

bp doesn't plan for this to last more than 48 hours, you know?
7/15/2010 11:58:05 PM
nor does your mom
7/15/2010 11:58:44 PM
I heard they put a wedding band on it and it stopped putting out.
7/16/2010 9:21:58 AM
Gusher stops; BP might still have to siphon oil Testing blocks leak completely, but don't be surprised if oil flows again
7/17/2010 7:12:12 AM
Leon is obviously not a pro at short links
7/17/2010 7:47:28 AM
7/17/2010 7:48:23 AM
^ This told me nothing new. In any event, in the meantime, officials will "likely" be siphoning "up to 80,000 barrels of oil per day"--and about "34.3 million gallons" has already been collected just since May.And I realize that you don't fully grasp public policy and politics, Chance, but here's yet another incentive to keep siphoning the well:Feds: BP must pay royalties on oil from Gulf spillJuly 15, 2010

^ I have no idea what point you're even trying to make. You posed this quandry
