i've been thinking about getting a pet for where i live now. I work 10 hour days and usually am away from home between 6am-7:30pm. I've been thinking about getting a cat but i wouldn't be able to let it outside so thats a no go. Anyone got any good ideas?

why do you want to let your cat outside?
7/19/2010 9:03:28 PM
you don't have to let a cat outside...evermy cat has seen daylight maybe a dozen times in her 10 years and she hated every minute of it
7/19/2010 9:03:54 PM
cats can stay inside you know ^ exactly!get a fish tank? its like a hobby/pet in one[Edited on July 19, 2010 at 9:04 PM. Reason : .]

If you get a cat that has never been outside then it won't have the need/want to go outside. Two cats are the answer.
7/19/2010 9:04:23 PM
cats don't need to go outside to be happyand they're great because you can leave them for a weekend and not worry

I had a cat, if you even attempted to take it outside it would claw your face off. This sounds like the solution to your problem.

I can't do a cat because i'm on the second floor and can't let it out. I'm not doing an indoor cat. Don't like the idea. I refuse to have an indoor only cat. Besides if the cat can go outside at will you don't need a litter box
7/19/2010 9:23:32 PM
one of our cats comes and goes as she pleases. takes all her dumps outside too. it's nice.
7/19/2010 9:24:44 PM
well then you don't need a pet...you need a turtle
covered litter boxcovered trash canscoop litter box several times a dayuse baking sodaput clumps into covered trash can. take out whenever you go out. NO SMELLor teach it to use the toilet.
7/19/2010 9:25:09 PM
get a fish. they're cheap and if it doesn't work out, you won't have to wait long for it to die.
7/19/2010 9:26:55 PM
^ nah i want an animal that will actually recognize me.
7/19/2010 9:27:22 PM

7/19/2010 9:49:46 PM
If I left my cats alone for 10 hours a day they'd destroy the entire apartment. I have never owned cats as clingy as they are
7/19/2010 9:50:31 PM
hahahahamy fat cat is SUPER clingy BUT she doesn't destroy things when she's left alone so that is fineshe's just a little needy. ok a lot needy when i'm actually theremy 1/2 retarded kitten is not needy though and jsut plays by herself and does idiotic shit. if you can find one like her it will be perfect!PLUS she is a runt and never grew so her poops are still very petite.

If you get a cat, either get a young kitten or a cat that is already an indoor cat. I really wouldn't recommend a kitten, though, as they're pretty energetic, and it's not nice to leave them alone so much. Try looking on craigslist for a cat that's 6-12 months old, that is litter-trained and an indoor cat. Also, declawing is mean. Buy scratching posts that are not in any way similar to your furniture.
7/19/2010 9:55:19 PM
for some reason my cats don't really scratch on anything furniture wisethey just pull that stuff down underneath my mattress and make a hammock and are content after thatwhich is good cause i don't agree w/ declawing eitherbut they also LOVE these cardboard scratch pad things that you can buy at target[Edited on July 19, 2010 at 9:56 PM. Cats do need to go outside.Just because you kept yours inside and now it fears or doesn't understand being outdoors does not mean it would not have lived a much healthier and happier life if it had been allowed to go outside.Imagine how great your life would be if you only had 2,000 sq ft. or less to roam. There, I said it. Boom...Headshot.[Edited on July 19, 2010 at 10:48 PM. Reason : l]

Maybe he just wants a companion..I think he's being pretty responsible by looking for a pet that fits into his lifestyle rather than going and buying a puppy then leaving it in a crate or by itself 12+ hours a day

Honestly, a reptile sounds like your best bet. I know some people may think it's real, but my snake is actually very cuddly but likes to keep to himself for the most part. He's clean (except when he takes like massive shits after shedding, but that's not every day, nor every week) and he's quiet. Snakes take a bit of work to set them up, but once you have that straight and their feeding schedule down, they require little maintenance compared to a dog or cat.Plus, they're just awesome.

i have a very friendly 6ft red tail boa for adoption if interested. very low maintence but loves being handled. or get a ferret or two, theyre low maintence and have lots of personality.
