seee skype is not cool cause you have to be on your computerI'm kinda tryin to avoid being on the computer, if possibleI guess I don't mind talking through my computer if it goes to their phone, but as far as I know two of the people I want to call don't have webcams, so skype is out

trying to avoid being on the computer to make a "call"
7/22/2010 11:50:50 AM
You can use Skype to call cellphones internationally, but you would be at your computer, and you need a subscription. Alternatively you can get a Skype to-go number and call it to call internationally with your cell phone. If that makes sense
I see what you're sayinghow much is skype subscription

trying to think how they can do it...maybe if they set up a google voice number that is local to you and have it redirect to their phone when you call the number then you can circumvent charges
7/22/2010 11:52:00 AM
Her birthday is today18 WHAT WHAT
7/22/2010 11:52:32 AM
It depends on the country you're calling. You have to buy subscriptions for each calling destination. For the US it was 6.99 for unlimited minutes.Alternatively, you can just look at their rates and buy Skype credit, and then pay per minute. http://www.skype.com[Edited on July 22, 2010 at 11:55 AM. Reason : for fucks sake why does it autoload the site in french ]
7/22/2010 11:53:21 AM
For the person in Sweden, get them to call you from a cell phone. Preferably from a Tele2 Comviq Amigos plan. It will cost them less to call you in the states than it will for them to call someone in sweden with a different cell carrier. Don't ask me why, but thats how I called home for two and a half years.
7/22/2010 11:53:26 AM
I hope she accidentally slips some nudes now, what what!LOL DWEEDLE LOL DWEEDLOLhmm grimx well if u figure it out let me know, or I'll just google on that idea^oh wordwell the Sweden guy probably I'd only talk to like once every 6 months so that one's not the big deal I guess ]

ok, so a brief look up shows people doing something like this:get a google voice numberget a http://www.localphone.com/ numberhave cell phonehave google voice -> localphone -> cell phoneand its supposedly super cheapthat's all based on other people's opinion though as i've never gone through that much to get it to work
7/22/2010 11:57:16 AM
Your first Skype-to-phone call is free
7/22/2010 11:59:28 AM
so which is more important to you BubbleBobble- trying not to be on the computer to make an international phone call- not paying $5/minute because you refused to use Skype

Eh, calling the US is only the one that is that good. Other civilized countries seem to range around 16-20 cents per minute to call mobile phones.
7/22/2010 12:07:29 PM
Hey BB, you can do what I'm doing. Buy a calling card. They are pretty cheap and you can use them anywhere in the US with a cell phone. You can buy calling cards to call specifically to certain countries. You will get the most minutes per dollar. For when she/he is at the computer, you can use Skype, MSN (with video), AIM, whatever.
7/22/2010 12:25:53 PM
how cheap are we talking merbigthx for the info grimx I'll look into it further
7/22/2010 12:28:52 PM
my girlfriend's been in guatemala for the past 2 months and I've been using http://www.rebtel.com ends up being 9 cents a minute for GUA. you put in whatever number you want and it gives you a local number to call like a 919 number. then you can just call it whenever you want from your phone. easy stuff and the cheapest i've been able to find.
7/22/2010 12:30:54 PM
^^ Well, I can only speak for the country I am calling to. But I paid 13.85 dollars and got 500 minutes. I bought the card on sale. So that's $0.0277 a minute. Unless you're buying one with like 1000 minutes or more, the card is only valid for 6 months. This isn't a problem for me, as I only have some 70 minutes left on it and I bought it at the beginning of the month. But, it's still a HELL of a lot cheaper than the overage charge Sprint charges for when you go over your anytime minutes (like $.50 a minute!)
