So this weekend is my birthday and I'm looking for a good bar to go to. Last night at saucer with my usual drinking buddies we tried to rack our brains for a good place that all of our friends would enjoy. We decided that this week we would "test" the finalist. Could be a long week.So my question to TWW, where would you go for your bday on a Friday?note: I hate douchey/jersey shore places (Solis) and super fraty places (Fosters, EV, etc). Unfortunately its seems that those places are slowly but surely taking over the Raleigh bar scene.[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 2:56 PM. Reason : .]

Lol... A place called Bing's just opened across the street from me in place of Morada's. Bing's and Bada should get together sometime and have some fun.

WKNC Afterhours Dance Party @ JibarraIf you don't like electronic music, and just want a bar to chill at, go to Isaac Hunter's, The Times, Landmark, Bada, or Ruckus.

8/3/2010 3:21:05 PM
They dont play any of that anymore, and 3 years ago is like 20 years when it comes to downtown raleighyou are out of the loop, completely.
8/3/2010 3:22:03 PM
FUBAR!
8/3/2010 3:22:53 PM
if being out of the Glenwood South loop makes me lame, i'm ok with thatthat one bartender that used to work there was kinda hot though, looked like Evangeline Lilly[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 3:25 PM. Reason : /]

My bday on a Friday? Jax for karaoke! Or Raleigh Times...or Slim's...or Player's Retreat...or Sadlacks depending on my mood
8/3/2010 3:36:28 PM
Busy Bee/Hive, Times, Landmark... really just go to Fayetteville and walk around. You'll find something that suits your tastes.[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 3:38 PM. Reason : x]
8/3/2010 3:38:21 PM
lk speaks the truthi would really like to like busy beeeveryone who works there (Metricula, etc.) is really coolbut goddamn, that place attracts douches like none other in the immediate area ]
8/3/2010 3:40:19 PM
HAHAHHAHAHAHsomeone on here said EV was slowly but surely taking over the bar scene. EV has been and seemingly will always be a staple porch bar that is relatively fun to hang out at with friends, but nothing special.
8/3/2010 3:41:18 PM
I love the outside seating at the Hive. And really, it doesn't bother me what type of people are there to be honest. I'm with my group and I have a good time with them sitting outside and drinking.[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 3:42 PM. Reason : in before this turns in to another bar/scene wars thread]
8/3/2010 3:41:27 PM
last time i went to a bar downtown i went to busy bee and had a blast!! it wasn't the jersey shore look at me type nor the fratty mcfratterton type either.

Isaac Hunter's Oak City Tavern. Reasonably priced drinks, great atmosphere, good music, and lots of games to play (if you're in that mood).

don't go to Bada, that place sucks. go to Ruckus or anywhere downtown

i would go to foundation, slims, the times, landmark or neptunes for my bday if i was headed downtownthe times is a good place to go with a group if you get there early to get a table (or a couple). landmark is kinda small for group ish. so is foundation. so it depends on how many peeps you have. and what you are looking for besides NOT the jersey shore and NOT fratty stuff. do you need music? what kind? food? what kind? beer - a wide selection or does it matter?i would avoid glenwood south at all costs. but that is just my preference.[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 4:52 PM. ^My female friends have requested somewhere that they can dance if they want. Of course they don't need to be at the "club" to dance, as long as there is some contemporary music (live music is good too). We're gonna eat before we go out so foods not a biggie. As for drinks as long as they're reasonably priced, I'm not picky. Since I'm planing on bringing my own group I would prefer if it's not a place that's jam packed where it takes 10 mins to get a beer.

if you go to Bada there is a 90% chance you'll get a blowjob from a very special girlTKE-Teg, which bar did i chuck the wiimote at the tv? was that Oak City or Busy Bee?]
8/3/2010 5:11:14 PM
oak cityand i won't be at bada this weekend
8/3/2010 5:15:54 PM
When I am in raleigh I almost always end up at The Saucer, Bada, or 5 O'Clock
8/3/2010 5:16:03 PM
i like the hive @ busy bee and isaac hunter's oak city tavern[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 5:19 PM. Reason : you can dance at both or if dancing is not your thing you can just chill outside]
8/3/2010 5:18:07 PM
i second that
8/3/2010 5:19:19 PM
i need to come back to Oak City so i can actually remember being there.
8/3/2010 5:20:02 PM
i've been there a few times and i've only drank 1 beer there
8/3/2010 5:20:29 PM
the place is pretty simple but i've had a great time every time

It's probably a futile question with it being Friday, but are there any good specials in the Fayetteville St. area. I have quite a few unemployed friends.
8/3/2010 5:26:55 PM
i personally love dive barsyou can come in and sit out and chat with the redneck localstheyre always a whole lot of fun and will actually talk with people outside their circle...even the nigruhs
