That's the "bone church" in Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic. I went there while studying abroad there 3 years ago. It's pretty cool.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedlec_OssuaryThere are signs everywhere asking you to not touch the bones. I touched the bones. And now back to my regularly scheduled lurking.

there are 4 enormous mounds of skullsmost of those people were killed during the Hussite Wars or by the plagueit is very desirable to be buried in that cemetery and the town makes (made?) its money on silver mines so at some point the wealthy paid to have the poor folks graves dug up and the bones dumped next to the churcha monk didn't like that too much so he started stacking the bones inside of the church into the big moundslater a craftsman was hired by a wealthy family to use the remaining bones to decorate the churchit is a great example of the memento mori
