I love watching undercover boss. CEOs that have no idea how the company works yet they take home all the money for "making the company work" aka not doing shit

clearly being the CEO of a major corporation requires no ability whatsoever. Why don't you go be the CEO of something, then donate your huge salary to the bottom-tier workers or charity?Oh that's right, because that's not the case at all, you don't know shit and don't have what it takes to do anything anywhere near that level. Those who can, do. Those who can't...
9/19/2010 10:59:37 PM
sad how the world works huh?
9/19/2010 11:00:16 PM
^^The only CEOs I know are the ones on this show and none of them have any idea what goes on in the company. Either this show is fake, a misrepresentation, or CEOs aint shit.
9/19/2010 11:45:32 PM
9/19/2010 11:46:46 PM
does this show focus on large corporations? (I bet it doesn't)if were talking about smaller scale businesses with an acting CEO that might be the only c-level exec in the company then they probably don't make nearly as much money as you think they doand I'm sure they work a lot harder than you think too

For every 60-80 hour work week there are probably 5 6-8 hour work weeks.[Edited on September 20, 2010 at 12:34 AM. Reason : the ceos on the show are always shitfaced after working for 2 hours straight.]
9/20/2010 12:33:57 AM
so the show picks CEOs that will be provocative and reinforce viewers assumptions and expectations - no surprise theremy father is a corporate president (not a CEO) and he probably works 15-18 hour days 6 days a week - some days more and some days less but he's almost ALWAYS working; even when he's on vacation he's taking calls and he doesn't make gobs of cash eitherwhat you've got to understand is all of the going out to dinner and playing golf and flying around and staying in hotels - THAT is work!that's the job they've been hired to do

I really don't think mambagrl understands upper level business peopleI mean these folks have like NO life outside of work and if they've got a spouse it is really tough for them because their SO isn't around and when s/he IS around s/he's thinking about workif the CEOs aren't fully absorbed in their business I think there's a good chance the company will experience diminished profits, slowed growth and maybe even failand if THAT happens then all of the lower and mid level employees are out of workso how important is leadership in a business again?
9/20/2010 12:51:48 AM
why do y'all take this troll seriously?

Theres a huge difference between being the president of a small company or running a business as a sbo and being the ceo of a large corporation. The CEO is essentially like a king. The CEO of a major corporation doesn't even have to know how to do the things essential to the company. The CEO of a paper company could not know shit about trees.

my father converted to the democratic party in the mid 90s because of what he saw as exploitative business practices and the dangers posed to the public by the under-regulation of industryindustry, especially management, can't be relied upon to "do the right thing" all of the time so some regulation is necessary

^Thats where you're wrong. I had beliefs about CEO's for the longest time but had nothing to back it up. This show was my first insight onto the incompetence of actual CEO's and now I can voice my theory. My father was a contractor but not like the corporation style contractors that simply provide all the money and hire contractors to hire subcontractors and hire specialized construction workers. My father was the type that hired workers and a few subcontractors for things like electrical and plumbing. It was far from a union family. My mother's side is super conservative. My Father independent but his family is all immigrants. Its funny because libertarians always say my philosophical belief set is actually a syndrome that stems from having too well of an upbringing.

Don't believe anything you see on TV. If you want real life experience, ask for an educational experience in a letter to CEOs of your choice and spend a work week with them and see what they do.
9/20/2010 7:06:09 PM
CEO's manage people and revenue. CTO's manage the product. They are entirely different and intentionally separated roles. Managing people well doesn't mean you can manage product well and vice versa. It doesn't mean a CEO's job is easy or trivial, it means it requires a DIFFERENT skill set. There's a concept called specialization of labor that you may want to look up before you continue to put your foot in your mouth.I love undercover boss too, I see it as a great opportunity for people (CEO's) to gain insight into skills and areas of the company that they may not be familiar with to be a better holistic leader. I don't know of ANY major CEO who could perform even a fraction of the job functions their employees carry out. They aren't paid to be a jack-of-all-trades, they're paid to keep the company operational and growing.
9/20/2010 7:08:50 PM
So you don't think they have accountants, marketing departments and asset managers doing anything for them?>
