so i've kind of been shopping around on the internet the past week and i haven't found anything particular that's caught my eye but the tv i have right now is really old and i definitely am feeling the strong urge to upgrade. obviously, i would like to do this sooner rather than later but would it be wise to wait a few months in the hopes that i might snag a sweet deal closer to the holidays?

what is your current TV like?
9/20/2010 12:32:40 AM
i'm not sure but it's about a 27" CRT circa 1997 or so that has held up surprisingly well over the years.i'm not gonna lie, about 75% of the reason i want to buy a new one is so that i can actually play FIFA 11[Edited on September 20, 2010 at 12:35 AM. Reason : ]

You can grab a tv for $Rhode Island on black Friday. But that is a ways away. Grab a higher quality 720p LCD and be happy.[Edited on September 20, 2010 at 12:41 AM. Reason : vv agreed. Up to 32" if much larger you might want to go higher res.]
9/20/2010 12:37:08 AM
how big we talkin?
9/20/2010 12:38:41 AM
you probably wouldnt even notice the difference between 720 and 1080 after being used to your current tv[Edited on September 20, 2010 at 12:41 AM. Reason : however, if this is a long term investment...]

yeah, i've been reading up on it and I'm looking for something between 32-37" most likely and almost definitely 720p. i won't really need much more resolution than that especially since i'm not even using cable right now.basically, i want something big enough to where i can play video games on it and hook up my laptop to show sports on a bigger screen
9/20/2010 12:45:19 AM
720p sucks ass for a laptop, but if your only hooking it up to stream like espn3 or Justin tv shit you'll be grand.

if that is all you're looking for, waiting most likely will not save you that much money
9/20/2010 12:54:03 AM
yeah, i wasn't sure how much i'd be able to save. not much more than the typical "aww fuck, i just bought this same tv 6 months ago and it's $200 cheaper now " type deal
9/20/2010 12:56:21 AM
if you dont care much about quality, get a ProScan 40 inch at sears, only about 400-450[Edited on September 20, 2010 at 12:58 AM. Reason : and it is 1080]
9/20/2010 12:58:00 AM
ok, so i guess the next question is should i go new, used, refurbished? i'm pretty skeptical about buying stuff like this used so i'm really leaning away from that option, but how reliable are refurbished televisions?
9/20/2010 12:58:04 AM
yea, I just picked up a Samsung 42 inch plasma for around $450. It's pretty tits. Most TV channels don't broadcast in 1080p anyway. You only need it if you're watching blu-ray or using it as a monitor.

get a tv with a warranty, dont be cheap you'll regret it
^^ where from?
