So I went to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ tonight. They have the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world there called Kingda Ka. Some of you coaster freaks may already know about it. That thing is just pure speed. It goes 0-128 mph in 3.5 seconds. I thought the Intimidator at Carowinds was fast, but that thing is nothing in comparison. The only bad thing about that coaster is that it's pretty short. My friends and I ended up liking this one called Nitro the best and rode it 4 times. Nitro is just as fast as the Intimidator at 80 mph, but it was just so smooth and the drops were ridiculous. Although I hate New Jersey, it just got a little bit better in my eyes. Here's a picture of Kingda Ka and Nitro. If you are in Jersey you should definitely check them out solely for the adrenaline rush.

Well you're first problem is that you did Intimidator at Carowinds, the one at Kings Dominions is the flagship and is bigger and faster. Carowinds is 232 ft tall, max speed about 75, at Kings Dominion it is over 300 feet tall and maxes out near 90 mph.The speed and intensity of the turns at Kings Dominion are the most intense I have ever ridden, it pulls some heavy g-forces after the first 85 degree freefall drop. I experienced gray-out, tunnel vision and total disorientation during the first turn, even after I started tensing my legs to force some blood back up. I looked over at my girlfriend at the end and she had actually G-LOC'd, that shit was intense. It probably didn't help that it was like 97 degrees and we were dehydrated though.

my vision blurred out on the intimidator 305 at KD. most intense shit i've ever rode in my life

Bet if you rode it again, it wouldn't do that

MCEscher I actually didn't go on El Toro or the other wooden roller coaster. For pure entertainment Bizzaro was awesome, especially at night. You go through this neon thing made to resemble the shape of the thing on Bizzaro's chest. There's flames that shoot up beside you at one point. There was also two times where you went through mist/fog. Then toward the end you go through a bunch of cutouts. All of these visual stimuli, plus there are speakers on both sides of your seat. It just makes for a good experience. The Batman ride was very similar to the Top Gun ride at Carowinds, but I thought that Top Gun was a bit smoother. Also the Superman ride was ridiculous.

^^what is the point of your post

Those are brakes all the way down the first hill. Now that I think about it though, I think they removed a few of those.

Has anyone ever been to Hershey Park or Dorney Park? If so what did you think of them?

That is really unfortunate about El Toro since it is probably one of my favorite rides on the planet, and WAY more so than Kingda Ka, Nitro, Bizzaro, or anything else at Great Adventure.I have been to both Hershey and Dorney and both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Hershey a bigger park with more to do. Storm Runner and Lightning Racer are great coasters. Dorney doesn't really have any stand out coasters, but its not a bad park to spend a few hours in.My favorite park in western Pennsylvania though is Knoebels (http://www.knoebels.com) which is 41 miles from Hershey, and 55 from Dorney. It's cheap, laid back, and the few coasters they have a really terrific. Definitely worth the drive from Dorney or Hershey.[Edited on October 9, 2010 at 3:25 PM. ^^Knoebels is great, and maybe in the next 10 years Flying Turns will be open And as an unabashed Pittsburgh homer, let me just throw a shout out to Kennywood. There's a great mix of old and new rides there. There are quite a few can't miss small-medium sized parks in PA.

I like wooden coasters just fine. It was me, my friend Joey, and then 5 girls. Most of the girls didn't really like wooden coasters. Speaking of wooden coasters, I wish they'd do some work on The Hurler. That thing can be pretty rough on one's back.

^^Unfortunately most people do have this view since your large Six Flags/Carowinds/Kings Dominion/Cedar Point etc style parks do not have good wooden coasters, and do not maintain the ones they have very well. Wooden coasters can be just as smooth as steel with the necessary upkeep. The thing about El Toro though is its not made like every other wooden coaster. The pieces are prefabricated off site, then shipped to the park for construction which makes it like a giant K'nex or Lego set. It is honestly smoother than probably 95% of the steel coasters I've been on.Rolling Thunder is one of the biggest pieces of shit out there though, you were smart to skip that one. lol at going to Great Adventure and not riding El Toro, which is not only by far the best ride in the park, but probably one of the top 5 coasters in the world. Kingda Ka is kind of shitty. Somewhat of a rush the first time you ride it, then boring from there on out (just like Top Thrill Dragster)BTW just got home from Phoenix Phall Phunfest at Knoebels. JESUS Phoenix was running insane. It was the first time I have ever considered for even the briefest second that I might like a coaster better than The Voyage (I don't, but still).[Edited on October 10, 2010 at 2:53 AM. Reason : .]

I have a script that pages a special beeper any time the phrase roller coaster is mentioned on this forum
10/10/2010 2:52:42 AM
Shit, I'm gonna make it to PPP one year. And come hell or high water, I'm gonna get up to Holiday World next season to get my first ride in on The Voyage. I know, I'm a terrible coaster nerd. I won't even be able to compare/contrast how it runs with Timberliners as opposed to PTCs. For shame
10/10/2010 11:05:46 AM
PPP and Holiwood Nights are the two must do coaster events IMO. Since they only ordered two Timberliners, they should add the PTC train as a third train for Holiwood Nights next year.

OP, I know you are a roller coaster freak, so I think you should book the first flight to Abu Dhabi, UAE, to go to this place:http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/17/video-take-a-virtual-tour-of-ferrari-world-abu-dhabi/World's Fastest Roller Coaster at the World's Largest Indoor Amusement Parkhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_Worldhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_Rossa0-60 mph in 2 seconds0-150 mph in 4 seconds!!!
