Pregnancy tests now come in multi-packs because most women test more than once for any number of reasons -- user error, testing too soon, disbelief, continued attempts at pregnancy. If you are pregnant, the extra tests expire before you would have cause to use them again. So, you either throw them away, give them to your whore friend, or verify your positive (why not?). I retested because I had been drinking water like crazy and my positive line was initially so faint that it was almost undetectable and then I wanted to make sure that the line was even darker from one day to the next. (Indicating that hormone levels are going up and the pregnancy isn't just chemical.)

And if I'm a terrible mother, then I'm incredibly grateful that my son is so resilient that he thrives despite my failures as parent.

"DiGeorge syndrome: Causes
(Professional Guide to Diseases (Eighth Edition))

DiGeorge syndrome is probably caused by abnormal fetal development (12th week of gestation) of the third and fourth pharyngeal pouches, which interferes with thymus formation. As a result, the thymus is completely absent or partially present in an abnormal location, causing deficient T cell-mediated immunity. (See Role of the thymus in immune response.) This syndrome has been associated with maternal alcoholism and resultant fetal alcohol syndrome."

Yes, the PHENOTYPE resemble FAS, but DiGeorge Syndrome is not FAS and FAS is not DiGeorge Syndrome. DGS is due to a verifiable and testable genetic anomaly. In fact, Silas and I have nearly identical congenital differences from our impaired T-cell mediated immunity to our fused cervical spine.

In fact, Silas and I are closely followed by genetics at Duke because he and I are the only known comorbid cases of Klippel-Feil Syndrome & DiGeorge Syndrome.

After discussing things with genetics, we decided to have another baby. Having a genetic disease does not make a person's life less worthy.

how many times did you get drunk during your first child's pregnancy? how many times have you been drunk when home alone with your child?

TrollyMcTrollerson.

I had a total of 2 drinks during my first pregnancy. One before I was even late with my period and the other when I was 8 months along at Thanksgiving with my husband's family. Big damned deal.

And I have never been home alone with Silas drunk. Haven't you ever thought that if I were a lousy alcoholic parent that someone would have taken that child away from me long before now? Between doctors visits, home nurse visits, workers with the CDSA, and therapists, Silas doesn't breathe without someone knowing it. And if you had to spend a year of your life like I did, you'd probably drink too when it wasn't your turn to draw up meds or monitor an infusion. And I spent more than a year in treatment for it and have come to terms with it. So kiss my ass and troll away.

Wow. The posts that you're referring to are pretty lame. I went into therapy to learn how to cope with having a child with complex needs and I learned how to cope. And that's not with copious amounts of alcohol. In fact, some of my posts you're referring to even highlight that.

Thanks, Samwise16! We are not going to do an amnio because genetics hasn't identified our particular genetic anomaly -- it's not the 22Q deletion. We've looked into GDF6 and TBX1 without a great deal of luck, so an amnio just wouldn't be useful. We'll look for features on the ultrasounds, do a newborn SCIDS screen, and love whatever we end up with. However, we are hoping for a girl because genetics thinks that it could be sex-linked.
