I have a 4 day weekend coming up and would like to go somewhere fall-ish in North Carolina with the boyfriend ... any suggestions of things/towns/attractions that are no more than 4 hours away

Plane to Vermont or New Hampshire... go to any small town and it's fall to the fullest. But in NC? Anywhere in the mountains.

I vote go to Asheville:1 or 2 days of hiking on the Blue Ridge Parkwaytour the Biltmore Estatetake a brewery tour (or the multiple brewery Brews Cruise)go to a concert at one of the many local venueseat dinner at several of the many fantastic restaurants in the area - I recommend Zambra, Laughing Seed, Chorizo, Early Girl (best breakfast), Ophelia'syou really need to stay in a hotel downtownif the Renaissance, Haywood Park, or Indigo are too expensive (and they are, for me) there is a hostel called Sweet Pea's with 2 private rooms that run $60 eachhttp://www.sweetpeashostel.com/private_rooms.php

Definitely Asheville. My wife and I just went up there for our 1 year anniversary (we had to plan something relatively short and on short notice because of her work schedule atm) and, as always, it was a lot of fun. Lots of good places to drink, the downtown area is just fun to walk around in, good restaurants etc.We love going up there. Plus my sister lives there so we could drop off the dog If you like Sushi, Wasabi on Broadway is a really good little sushi joint. Plenty of good bars but as far as good beers, my two favorite are the Thirsty Monk and the Bier Garden. There is also easy access to lots of good hiking and great views along the Blue Ridge Parkway within very close distance to Asheville. There is a nice little trail off the parkway just 15 mins from the downtown if you are interested. Just take Town Mountain Road from College Rd/Tunnel road leaving downtown. When it T's into the parkway there is a parking lot on the left with stairs leading to a trail. If you want to stay really close to downtown but not directly in it, there are a lot of good bed and breakfasts in that area. I think I'm going to try and do an Asheville weekend get away in January on MLK weekend. I love Charleston, but I need some mountain weather at least once a year.

How about a good three day trip over New Years Eve. Driving distance 6 hours or less?
