I've noticed a lot of people will just make up their own sushi rolls when they go to a sushi restaurant. So if you were to make your ideal sushi roll, what would it be?I saw one the other night that looked tasty. Tuna, salmon, cucumber, and spicy mayo rolled reserve with tempura bits on the outside.
11/2/2010 10:23:06 AM
soft shell crab rolled in hundred dollar bills
11/2/2010 10:23:49 AM
I don't think hundred dollar bills would taste very good
11/2/2010 10:24:14 AM
I want a bagel roll, but instead of salmon, i want crab or eel in it. yum!
11/2/2010 10:28:01 AM
mango. tuna. little bit of salmon. avocado. and very, very, very little rice (like 1/4 of what they normally give you).
11/2/2010 10:53:38 AM
I just made a shit ton of sushi myself on Saturday.
11/2/2010 10:54:46 AM
11/2/2010 10:58:27 AM
Uni with quail egg and salmon roe. Some restaurants have it, but I have to make a special request at other restaurants. It's probably the most amazing roll ever.
11/2/2010 11:00:05 AM
God I hate uni and ikura lol
11/2/2010 11:01:41 AM
But do they have that awesome sweet sauce on it?? The yummy sticky brown stuff?? It rocks my socks.
11/2/2010 11:03:08 AM
The eel sauce? Yeah if you ask them to put it on top they will. All that shit is is soy sauce and high fructose corn syrup
11/2/2010 11:04:45 AM
Is this a troll thread?
11/2/2010 11:06:07 AM
spicy tuna handjob
11/2/2010 11:06:53 AM
3^mmmmmmHFCS
11/2/2010 11:08:43 AM
I wish they had a brand that didn't have HFCS in it I could make it myself but that's way too much effort lol.
11/2/2010 11:09:33 AM
I figured it was soy sauce based. I heart it like crazy. I want a bottle of it to keep at home.
11/2/2010 11:11:26 AM
They sell it at pretty much every Asian market I've been to in the area.
11/2/2010 11:11:57 AM
brb, lol
11/2/2010 11:12:16 AM
Another sushi I like the inside is yellowtail, cucumber, and eel, rolled reverse, and laid on top is shrimp with garlic, mayo, and eel sauce that they then take a blowtorch to until the mayo gets a nice golden brown color.[Edited on November 2, 2010 at 11:18 AM. Reason : too many os]
11/2/2010 11:18:22 AM
holy shit, can anyone say salmonella
11/2/2010 11:18:52 AM
This has inspired me to make sushi for dinner. There apparently is not an Asian grocery store near us now though, or at least one that I can find.
11/2/2010 11:28:25 AM
Where do you live?
11/2/2010 11:30:24 AM
i make my own sushi.i kill a fishi gut iti throw it over riceboom
11/2/2010 11:30:46 AM
most decent grocery stores will carry nori, sushi rice and vinegar
11/2/2010 11:31:42 AM
There was an asian supermarket beside Mac's Tavern in Cary. Did it close?
11/2/2010 11:33:22 AM
I have nori, sushi rice and vinegar. I want some pickled radish or something else interesting, wasabi and Sriracha that aren't $$$/shitty at the grocery store, and also some eel etc. for my boyfriend. But he said he can live without it so I guess we are doing veggies, tofu and crab and maybe salmon or something. I have the day to figure that out. We are in Morrisville. Grand Asia isn't too far but I don't feel like driving out there in traffic so will probably just hit up HT.[Edited on November 2, 2010 at 11:35 AM. Reason : ^ S Mart. It's still open but I'm no longer out there. And it sucks.]
11/2/2010 11:34:56 AM
There's a couple of Asian markets in and around Morrisville.
11/2/2010 11:38:04 AM
I am not having luck with Google but also haven't looked incredibly hard yet. I will keep looking. We are pretty close to the Durham line, off McCrimmon.
11/2/2010 11:38:52 AM
Are you close to Brier Creek. The one over there is pretty good if you're just looking for stuff like sriracha and pickles.
11/2/2010 11:39:50 AM
Food Lion on Avent Ferry now carries sushi... I know nothing of the quality since I don't like sushi. figured I'd let y'all know.
11/2/2010 11:40:14 AM
I don't even trust regular fish at Food Lion, I can't imagine eating raw fish from there
11/2/2010 11:52:01 AM
^elitist. I'm still around.
11/2/2010 11:55:02 AM
When it comes to food poisoning from fish I don't mind being an elitist I usually buy my pork from Food Lion though.
11/2/2010 12:06:04 PM
^^It's not really elitist, or even a position unique to people who make sushi. I love Food Lion but you should be no means use their fish for raw preparation--if you're going to use raw fish you need to get the highest quality and freshness you can afford, and Food Lion is not the place to go for that when it comes to fish.
11/2/2010 1:34:10 PM
peanut butter and jelly
11/2/2010 1:35:35 PM
I'm normally not a big fan of soy sauce, but I had some recently that was delicious. Please recommend soy sauces to me, TWW--not Kikkoman obviously.
11/2/2010 1:53:24 PM
I seriously Daikou Soy Sauce but have no idea where you can get it around here. Need to see if they'll do mail order or something.
11/2/2010 1:56:29 PM
fried soft shelled crab with fried shrimp with eel with white sauce all covered in those orange fish eggs...
11/2/2010 2:14:19 PM
I made sushi for the first time Friday night! I cheated though and cooked the shrimp so I wouldn't kill my husband and I. I like all the adventurous stuff when I go get sushi though. Speaking of which... I have a groupon for sushi! Yum!
11/2/2010 2:21:39 PM
This thread inspired me to have sushi for lunch
11/2/2010 3:21:59 PM
We made a couple rolls with various combinations of cucumber, avocado, daikon, carrot, asparagus, red bell pepper, sprouts, fried tofu, shrimp and imitation crab(lol). Plus sesame seeds, sriracha and "rice seasoning" that was little dried shrimp bits and nori flakes or something. Also had some edamame and dumplings and a salad with ginger dressing. I have been saying I wanted to make sushi for a while. Thanks for the motivation
11/2/2010 8:51:50 PM
I like crunchy spicy tuna rolls.
11/2/2010 9:09:52 PM
Think I might get sushi tonight.
11/5/2010 1:51:39 PM
