I just started reading "The Millionaire Next Door" to help with my business and it awakened me to a whole new kind of literature. Ive never read any self-help or motivational type literature. So, Im interested in reading more books along the same lines. What have you read that has helped with your business and/or investments?

I read "How to Make Friends and Influence People"it's a pretty interesting read...he talks about how you should smile a lot, and use other people's names frequently, and shit like thatI suppose it's mostly things that everyone but social retards figure out for themselves...but being a social retard myself, I found it interesting

Alright, serious reply time. The money book is one my mom swears by and what she gave me along with a lot of other Dave Ramsey stuff. Intended to help you eliminate debt by life style changes and be much more responsible with money overall. Leadership books were "assigned reading" when I was an Engineering Ambassador at NC State, designed to help you lead from the middle of the food chain and be a much more effective person overall. Etiquette book was a graduation gift from a CHE professor to the graduating class."Total Money Makeover" - Dave Ramsey, and other books by him"The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" "7 Habits of Highly Effective People""The 360 Degree Leader""The Etiquette Edge"Most of these are common sense books that help to open your eyes to what's going on around you. Be wary of many money books though. Some have just ridiculous information...I think the popular one was about a janitor who retired a millionaire which actually had a bunch of very wrong information and tips for people.

I love to read but I can't stand self-help and motivational books. I've tried to read a few before suggested by people at work and it felt like reading Chicken Soup for the Soul books.^"7 Habits of Highly Effective People" was one of the books I read and I know it is extremely popular esp in managing circles but it just seemed like hot air that probably gets people "motivated" but doesn't really make much impact on their life. Like you said, it was just a common sense book. It really just tells you stuff that you already know, but as an adult you're generally already doing them (in your own way) or not and reading a book doesn't normally change it.In fact, a lot of the people I know that read self-help books are the same ones who never change or adapt but think they are always "ahead of the curve" for reading this stuff.[Edited on November 22, 2010 at 8:38 AM.
