This'll be my first Christmas that isn't preceded by exams or followed by a return to school...on one hand I'm , but returning to the grind of work afterward is a little

I put mine up last Saturday, but mainly out of necessity. We were up in the mountains and didn't think we would make it back before Christmas, so we went ahead and got it.We are decorating it tomorrow night.
11/24/2010 5:10:03 PM
Forgot I took a pic of it with my phone. Here it is. Got it up before the NCSU/UNC game on Saturday, so I had to go ahead and put an NCSU ornament on it.

11/24/2010 5:43:26 PM
My GF's uncle owns a tree farm near Grandfather Mountain, so while we were up there visiting we went ahead and got it.And BTW, if anyone is going to the mountains to get your tree this year, let me know and I will give you his address. It's a Choose/Cut, so the trees are as fresh as you can get. He has some really nice ones too.

11/26/2010 12:50:43 PM
Why drive all the way to VA when there are tree farms here in the Triangle? Support local farms
11/26/2010 2:15:58 PM
Are they actual tree farms, or do they ship in cut trees from the mountains?
11/26/2010 2:31:46 PM
They are actual tree farms.
11/27/2010 12:56:57 PM
because i live closer to VA than the triangle. i live 15-20 mins from the state lineand the scenery up there is nicer. it'll be a fun drive through some country my wife hasn't seen yet.[Edited on November 27, 2010 at 1:09 PM. Reason : adfs]

[Edited on November 27, 2010 at 1:13 PM. Reason : how much is a 6' fir down there anyway? never bought a real tree before]
11/27/2010 1:12:56 PM
My family never spent more than $30 on a tree but I'm not sure. We're going to the farm next weekend so I can report back then
11/27/2010 1:21:16 PM
We spent $45 on a 12' tree last yr. Usually we get an 8' tree for $30-35 or so. We cut it ourselves and they wrap it for us.
11/27/2010 1:23:34 PM
Today's paper says a 9ft fir can be procured at the farmers market for $49 this year

^What... did you just chop down some tree or something?I think I see a birdhouse in the first pic...lol-----------------------------------------------Christmas trees should be either:--fake, made from 100% recycled materials, recyclable, and actually recycled when disposed of.or,-- real, 100% organic, and composted or eaten when disposed of.(such a fucking waste of energy and land for a fucking unnecessary decoration)(same with pumpkins on Halloween)(also, use 100% recycled/recyclable wrapping paper, or reusable boxes/bags)[/eco-grinch]
11/29/2010 11:13:32 AM
Raleigh composts Christmas trees so I don't feel bad about kicking it to the curb
11/29/2010 11:18:55 AM
What's the closest place around here to get a nice fresh tree? Preferably goose/cut? If its a place that cuts them down for you is a tip expected? I funk I would anyway unless its just generally not done
11/29/2010 11:20:45 AM

about tipping the tree farm pepole: i cut a tree yesterday at one of those farms. some guy took the tree from me and had it shaked and baled and then he tied it on top of our car. i gave him 5 bucks. dont know if hes an owner or not, but i was glad i didn't have to hassle with all of that.thing was we wound up spending $75 for that tree (counting the tip), another $5 on snacks and probably $10 in gas round trip. that's a $90 tree plus about 3-4 hours of the day. my sister in law got her pre-cut tree from the grocery store down the street for $40, and i think it's even bigger.
11/29/2010 1:14:35 PM
haha the guys where i went just came out there with a chainsaw, cut it down, we threw it on a trailer behind a 4 wheeler, they hauled it up there to my truck and threw it in the back. no shaking and no baling. i thought about tipping, but they peaced out so i didn't figure they expected anything. they had the baling stuff there but there wasn't much need with a truck bed. actually, not baling it meant we didn't have to wait for the limbs to fall back down.
