Last week we had some new people move in next to us. They blast their crappy music nonstop late at night and early in the morning. We've gone over there twice in the five days they've been there to ask them to turn it down and they just blow us off At what point to I give up being civil and torch their car?

1. living in an apartment
11/29/2010 2:25:20 PM
As long as you're active aggressive and not passive aggressive, I don't care.
11/29/2010 2:26:08 PM
Will never live in an apartment again. For every reason listed in this thread, I have no idea why anyone would buy a condo.
11/29/2010 2:26:14 PM
At my last apartment, Sonia and I went down to talk to these cats about their loud music at all hours five times altogether. We went to the property manager twice. Finally, I just started stomping on the floor when they got rowdy at 4:00 a.m. And when they started cussing me for it, that's when I started calling the cops on their ass. That's an answer, and it was my answer, but your mileage may vary.
11/29/2010 2:27:32 PM
you could call the lawbut then they'd probably torch your car
11/29/2010 2:27:54 PM
^ Thankfully they don't know which car is mine
11/29/2010 2:33:53 PM
they'll figure it out
11/29/2010 2:35:32 PM
Naw, I doubt it. I'm around so infrequently they'd be hard-pressed to catch me coming or going from the apartment. Which is why it doubly pisses me off that the few hours I'm not working are spent listening to their shitty rap music
11/29/2010 2:37:04 PM
11/29/2010 2:46:36 PM
if they are ignoring your courtesy reminders, then you are absolved of all douchebaggery by calling the cops.you could always put tacks under their tires.you could always pull the disconnect switch to their heat pumps.[Edited on November 29, 2010 at 2:49 PM. Reason : .]

instead of stomping on the floor at 4am, stomp on the floor at 6,7, or 8am. Loud morning music is good too.
11/29/2010 2:56:27 PM
idk why people need someone to tell them it's ok to call the cops on their shitty neighbors, but it's ok to call the cops
11/29/2010 3:41:25 PM
I know this is going to sound dumb, but when's the time frame you can call the cops for a noise complaint? I know when I used to live on Kent Rd. the cops wouldn't bother showing up unless it was 2-3am when the call was made. Do you have to wait until the 11pm noise ordinance kicks in?
11/29/2010 4:01:27 PM
call and tell them you smell pot coming from the placeor that you suspect underage drinkingthey'll be there in a flash
11/29/2010 4:02:42 PM
Cops. That and look into maybe suing the property management group if they aren't doing anything since you've contacted them about it.
11/29/2010 4:03:44 PM
sue the property management group?seriously?
11/29/2010 4:04:43 PM
11/29/2010 4:08:00 PM
It took two months of calls to get the jerks to change the lightbulbs in the hallway of my buildingAnd they didn't even change all of them!
11/29/2010 4:08:33 PM
^^^ youd be surprised what you can do with nuisance laws. Or at least threaten to. Lease doesnt include loud neighbors. ^^ I also highly support this
11/29/2010 4:13:54 PM
Buy or borrow a speaker system from a friend.Lay them on floor speaker down.Blast "Fly Like A G6" for 5 hours.Repeat as necessary.

A friend on my Facebook is whining that she needs someone to adopt her cat because her new apartment won't allow pets. But she knew this fact before even applying for the apartment. It's not like they sprung this on her. Why the hell are you going to apply for an apartment that doesn't allow pets if you have a pet? It's not like Raleigh only has one apartment complex in the entire city and you're stuck with this dire choice.I guess this was more of a Facebook annoyance than an apartment annoyance

get a stereo, time for bass warz
12/23/2010 8:00:50 PM
My neighbors have heard my police scanners/radios and assume I am with some local PD or government agency. Along with having a 90+lb dog everyone treats me real nice

I had a neighbor in Columbia who let their dog out, off leash, to roam the parking lot all night. All it would do was sit and bark. After I had a word with the fucker at 5am and the noise continued, I complained several times to management. Finally, they said they received many complaints and were going to evict him in 2 weeks. Those two weeks came and went. I decided to take it into my own hands, so I lured the dog into my car, drove to a bridge, and tossed it over.
1/4/2011 9:47:51 PM
^true? You cold.

I don't really respect the "stomping on the floor" mentality. If I'm bothering you, I'd rather you come tell me. Stomping on the floor just seems childish in an apartment setting. In my last apartment, the people above me apparently had super-sensitive hearing and would stomp on the floor when I had music playing at a very reasonable, low level. If I felt it was unwarranted, I'd usually turn the volume up really loud for another minute or so. They'd leave me alone then. They never once came and talked to me. Maybe I'm an ass?The noise complaint I received from the office came during a time when I was gone for the weekend. Apparently there was a loud party up the street and the morons upstairs thought it was me and went to the office. Also, I never once saw them take their dogs outside during the year I lived there - I don't know how that worked.SUMMARYStomping on the floor accomplishes nothing. Beat on their door a few times and tell them. Then call the cops.[Edited on January 4, 2011 at 10:41 PM. Reason : oh cool, an old thread... whatever]

My neighbor has a really yappy dog that sometimes will bark for what seems like hours... My other neighbor is a giant pothead and sometimes forgets to put the towel under his door (although that doesn't always cover up the smell).
1/4/2011 11:05:14 PM
I'm sure the pothead is less annoying than the dog. I can't stand yappy football dogs.

The whining of the fridge, the loud buzzing/clicking that comes from the pipes in the wall when we/people around us use the water.
1/5/2011 8:07:31 AM
^^The thing is, sometimes you don't if the people are stomping/beating around because of some music, if they are doing jumping jacks, or if the dogs are jumping around. I know in BIGsementampon's case they would be stomping around at random times, sometimes when there really wasn't much noise being made inside his apt. Also, like he said about the party complaint, it could be coming from somewhere else you end up being the asshole stomping on your neighbor's ceiling for noise you are hearing somewhere else. When I lived in an apt we had a girl that would come complain about music when my roommate would have his computer volume up barely enough to hear it. I guess the walls were thin and his computer desk was up against it the wall though. One time we let her (and her mom) come in and hear how quiet the music was in his room (we couldn't even hear it in the living room, with his door open) and I'm pretty sure she thought we were bullshitting her because she said it was louder in her room than it was in his. If she had just beat on the wall or something we would have never suspected music that quiet would be bothering a neighbor. It did happen a few times though, but when you can watch a lecture, without headphones at a just an audible level, and bother the neighbor(s) then beating on the wall/floor isn't going to do much except make me think that you're the asshole. If they are blasting music after multiple (or even one) requests then call the po po.
1/5/2011 8:40:21 AM
tell them a large college party is occuring and you smell pot, repeat, bang, problem solved
1/5/2011 8:45:00 AM
my old above neighbors had a subwoofer on their floor.luckily i no longer live in that apartment
1/5/2011 8:54:41 AM
threads like this definitely make me appreciate the privacy of a home.
1/5/2011 9:01:26 AM
if it's an apartment and talking to the neighbors doesn't work, annoy the shit out of the property management until they evict them.
1/5/2011 9:53:00 AM
^ That's what we've started doing. I got tired of going over there at least once a week to tell her to stfu. If me banging on your front door for 10 minutes before you hear it and open the door isn't an indication your music is too loud, it's time to get your hearing checked.

i've only been part of one eviction proceeding, and it was us being evicted. for playing music too loud and holding amateur wrestling events in the late nights/early mornings. and skinny dipping in the pool with a case of beer bottles.we continued to live in the apartment long after the eviction notice was served, without paying rent, until the heat/electricity was finally turned off.then I gave the key to a homeless drug dealer and told him he could stay as long as he wanted.ah to be 19 again. luckily my name wasnt on the lease
