I don't want my food being coddled.

11/30/2010 4:59:58 PM
how do you propose we provide the grocery stores and restaurants with chicken, pork, or beef that is affordable without something of this nature?
11/30/2010 5:10:10 PM

the Riverside, California area... what an odd comparison. That would be like being in California and using a "the Wilmington, NC area" comparison[Edited on November 30, 2010 at 5:14 PM. Reason : d]

It's more likely than you think
11/30/2010 5:21:10 PM
^^ Yeah something tells me the creator of this map is from California

And most of that manure gets scattered on fields where they grow more stuff for you
11/30/2010 5:31:12 PM
Nothing like the smell of 50 acres of freshly spread manure

If it doesn't make it into the waterways or into your processed meat first Y'all don't remember the epic hog waste spills of the 90s?I will say, NC seems to have gotten their shit together a lot more than other states since then.

I don't give a fuck. I love cheap, good tasting food.
11/30/2010 5:51:15 PM
I like for my bacon to already be tenderized by all the other pigs they stacked in the same pen.
11/30/2010 5:52:57 PM
^^^ Beef and poultry mostly. If I buy pork I usually get it from Well's. They got some happy piggies on that farm [Edited on November 30, 2010 at 5:54 PM. Reason : a]

So it's a farm and slaughterhouse all in one?
11/30/2010 6:07:11 PM
Would you be willing to pay double or triple for chicken if it meant more "humane" conditions in raising them? Or would you rather people go back to raising their own hogs and chickens for their consumption?
11/30/2010 6:08:13 PM
Option 2 would be awesome
11/30/2010 6:14:37 PM
i'm fine with option 1 and 2. i don't mind paying for more humane conditions which typically means healthier, less processed (hormone injected) meat. but i also am down for people raising their own chickens and pigs for their own consumption.its whatev, really. i'm all for both.[Edited on November 30, 2010 at 6:19 PM. ^ Same. If I had the resources I would happily raise my own meat. There's a guy down the street from my parents that raises chickens and sells the eggs whenever he has extra. Best tasting eggs in all of Wake County imo.My grandma raises chickens that lay greenish-blue eggs

There's quite the strong smell from the chicken houses all around the outskirts of wilkesboro, and quite a few chicken processing plants in the city. Chicken is probably the largest source of jobs in that area...That or Lowes
