Never heard of this since Barker would take it up until midnight but there's a sign on the paybox that says rent was due at 5pm. Website and their official Facebook page plus other websites say no office hours on saturday or sunday. Lease says end of business day.So I ask you TWW, how can 5pm be the end of a nonexistent business day?

i like waiting till the last minute. there's no benefit to turning your rent in early. i'll wait to see what excuse the landlord has and then send him the screenshots saying they're closed and he can point to the pertinent part of the lease he thinks applies at 5pm.

I've had something apartment-related due on a holiday where they didn't have office hours. The office just said as long as they had it at the start of business the next day they didn't care. Maybe that will work for you?!I mean seriously, it's not like they're going to log your rent and get deposits together at 7pm anyway.

you can't just put terms in a contract that aren't already covered by the plain language"end of business on the 5th" can't magically turn into 5pm on the 3rd because you think it makes sense (or because thats what they MEANT to say)also the grace period exists for the sole purpose of giving a few days in case the DUE date lands on a weekend or holiday, it has absolutely nothing to do with the late fee date, a five day grace period is a five day grace period always[Edited on December 6, 2010 at 12:22 AM. If it's due by the end of business on the 5th, and there is no business on the 5th, then if they wanted to push the point it is due the last time there is business before the 5th.Actually, with NC tenant law it looks like you are probably fine in any case since there is a statutory 5 day provision. That said, just drop it in the slot and with most landlords you will be fine. Since if they are out all day on Sunday they won't know whether it was before or after 5pm, and they can't do anything with your check before Monday morning anyways.[Edited on December 6, 2010 at 12:28 AM. yeah rents are almost always due on the 1st and then you have the 5 day grace period (although technically a 5 day grace period would start at the end of 1st and go through the 6th but i learned a long time ago that people never count days right)^ lol, i'm actually getting the end of business day part from the lease NOT from my personal preference, obviously if it just said the 5th it wouldnt be an issue, plz read carefully before replying

it's not like this is the first time the 5th has ever fallen on a weekend. you knew they were going to be closed on the weekend so it's your responsibility to get it to them before they close their offices. you can't get mad at them if you didn't pay them when you were supposed to and they fine you.

my strategy in college was just to devote parts of each of the 4 checks i got each month (2 if you get biweekly) to rent, that way i wasnt counting on one paycheck to make or break it

I honestly dont think this should be an issue. If rent is due on the first, then give it on the first.Don't look at it as being due on the 5th.
