What are some good sites to download free e-books in .epub format?

I know when I bought an e-reader (Sony) the guy said there were a bunch of public domain books, so I think in addition to torrents, there are lots of free and legal books out there

Also, for people in Charlotte, they have last year's e-readers at Borders at Morocroft Village...$200 retail, but selling for $75 since the store is closing in a week! only have them in pink though...but I gave the one I bought to my mom so no issue with the color
