For the last 2-3 days my heart has been pounding. It doesn't feel like it's beating fast, just hard/strong. It seems worse when I lay down. Just took my blood pressure and got 140/70 90.

12/29/2010 10:01:12 PM
If not the emergency room, go to an urgent care facility in the morning. You should definitely see a doctor and soon./opinion from guy who is not a doctor
^yeah, i would probably go to a community health center or an urgent care]
12/29/2010 10:02:05 PM

^ BPMI used to feel like shit all the time and have similar problems. Was just generally not healthy, mentally or physically, had sinus problems, allergies, diabetes would flare up randomly, couldn't get enough sleep, and life was a bag of shit basically. Not saying this is what's currently affecting you, but I usually only get palpitations over the semi long term when I'm a bit sick & exhausted, when I am fighting/having a panic attack, or when I've fucked my meal schedule in the ass in my body is angry as hell at me.[Edited on December 29, 2010 at 10:07 PM. Go to urgent care asap
12/29/2010 10:10:48 PM
Eating and drinking normally. Have some social anxiety (large groups/crowded areas). I worked a ton the month of december and was on a completely backwards schedule, but finished that up just before xmas. Had trouble getting back on my regular schedule since then and thus have messed up my sleep patterns.[Edited on December 29, 2010 at 10:13 PM. Reason : also had a sinus infection starting about last thurs., but thats clearing up now]
12/29/2010 10:11:47 PM
plz not to die, kkthx
12/29/2010 10:12:23 PM
sounds like anxiety and worrying about it will probably exacerbate the situation. just take longer breaths and breathe out slowly. maybe hit a brother up for some xanax or k-pins. try to relax but if not go to the student health center or something (if it's open?, urgent cares get pricey).I offer the above as a suggestion and take no legal liabilities to any injury or legal ramifications that may result from said suggestion. If you have any questions, consult my attorney khcadwal
12/29/2010 10:15:12 PM
god bless your heart. that sucks. i honestly have no advice except to go to urgent care its always better to be safe than sorry.....[Edited on December 29, 2010 at 10:16 PM. Reason : ^what he said]

90 bpm is pretty high IMO. 60-80 is normal, but even then I think the 80 folks are usually those who are in pretty bad shape. 100+ would be considered tachycardia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TachycardiaI'd cut out caffeine and any other stimulants you might be taking in. Some common meds for treatment of depression, ADD, etc can send your HR and Blood Pressure through the roof as well. Are you taking meds for the sinus infection? If that doesn't help see a doc. Especially if you have insurance.[Edited on December 29, 2010 at 10:19 PM. Reason : l]

Yeah I'm kinda leaning towards panic attack as well. It takes me forever to go to sleep, I guess because I focus on my heartbeat. I laid down a bit ago, but started to freak out so I got up (when I made this thread). Generally if I'm doing something to keep me occupied it doesn't bother me so much. I'll probably just stay up all night (so I don't die in my sleep) and go to urgent care in the morning.[Edited on December 29, 2010 at 10:22 PM. Reason : not taking any meds]
12/29/2010 10:22:22 PM
I realize this thread is about heart palpitations....which I do not have. Hear me out, maybe I can offer some insight.I am in outside sales, which is currently salary+commission, but will move into straight commission starting at the beginning of July 2010. I have been in this position since July 2009. I have competition from several direct manufacturing sales reps, large distributors, and local distributors. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of each:Direct Advantages: Immediate knowledge of new technology, no middle man mark up, one shipping bill (paid by manufacturer or buyer of goods), access to larger range of non-commodity items, control inventory, have access to many distributors that can effectively sell their goods which increases market share, and set prices of commodity they manufacture.Direct disadvantages: Typically have 1-3 sales reps per region (i.e. southeast, mid-atlantic, northeast, etc.) limiting the number of accounts they can successfully manage/cold-call, lack physical customer service or physical technical service available to or affordable for smaller users or altogether, are sometimes not trustworthy because they will go in behind their distributors that sell their commodity to one account in large quantities (i.e. they missed a big account, and have found out about it through a distributor selling their particular product) which leads to the distributor not selling their product anymore, have too many distributors selling the product ultimately driving the set price down through deviations, possibly rely on distributors to actually sell the product, and competition from other direct sources.Large distributor advantages: have access to other commodities that go hand in hand with other manufacturers (poor example- grocery stores sell milk as well as cereal), get direct pricing, many locations regionally or nationally easing the shipping burden of buyers with multiple locations, personal service either customer or technical, many sales reps that are able to cover a broader territory, access to multiple manufacturers of the same commodity allowing to keep prices in check, service programs that smaller companies can't offer and direct providers can't match in price or value, and experts of many many commodities as opposed to one or a few.Large distributor disadvantages: smaller local distributors creating price wars (think Michael Scott Paper Co vs Dunder-Mifflin), direct mfg's going in behind and stealing business, limited access to all of the mfg's (you won't find Harris Teeter name brands in Food Lion and visa versa), can't truly set prices because it's based on both supply and demand, territory management, and tough growth prospects in slower economies (this is true for direct as well really)Local distributor advantages: Typically a good ol' boy setting where the seller and the buyer know each other for years (this does happen at all levels, but mostly at the local level), local folks are right down the street and can be used in emergencies, if the local guy buys at high enough volumes then there is no shipping charge to the end user, and access to both direct mfg's and large distributors.Local distributor disadvantages: easily beaten in price, array of commodities, array of technology, lack of trained staff, low cash flow, etc etc etc. This is what I have noticed in my six months, I am sure there are plenty more that need mentioning. The way I am setting myself apart as a sales person is this: I go after the big accounts right now while I am new. The big accounts, if I land them, will take care of me while I am new and building a customer base. The money made off of those allows me to focus free time on smaller accounts that get me higher margins. I build up big accounts, I would like to have 5-10 of these, then get 20-30 medium accounts. If I lose 1 or 2 big accounts, the 20-30 medium accounts keep me afloat while I go after new big accounts. I don't really waste time on small accounts simply because they basically pay for breakfast or something really small.I will say this, if you can't get a big account in the first 6-8 months (assuming you have cash flow that you can ride this long) you could be in a world of trouble. If you can get one, it will really make going after the others a lot more enjoyable and less stressful. It's simply just very exhausting wasting any time on anything other than big accounts in the very beginning. You work just as hard on the medium sized accounts and see 1/3 to 1/36 of the money in my situation. If you have any other questions, you can PM me. I hope this helps in the slightest!
12/29/2010 11:38:25 PM
drink 4 cups of coffee and play some full court bball (actually play defense, no loafing) and report back

Go to urgent care in the morning.Tonight as you lay down to go to sleep, do abdominal breathing. This will instantly ease any tightness if you have been holding your breath a lot and make you feel just a little better right away.Concentrate on relaxing your body starting with your toes. Flex them and let them relax. Feel the difference. Rotate your ankles and let them relax. Flex your calves and let them relax. Keep doing the abdominal breathing as you do this and concentrate on moving up your body, flexing and relaxing. Once you get up to your head, let your tongue relax (sounds weird but it was something I never even paid attention to). Furrow your brow and then let it relax. Take slight note (without mentally dwelling on it) of all those muscles you just flexed and relaxed. Anything tightened up again? Usually that line between my eyebrows comes back again and I have to start over, a little faster this time.Sounds dumb, but it's the only thing that helps me keep it together when I am panicking.

If your ticker isn't feeling right, you should get it checked out, imo. I've heard that's a fairly important organ.
12/29/2010 11:59:47 PM
have you been taking anything for your sinus issues? mucinex dm fucked with my heart big time.
12/30/2010 12:17:11 AM
I hear crack fucks with your heart.
12/30/2010 12:18:32 AM
^shes right! certain decongestants can screw you up!
12/30/2010 12:18:50 AM
ahha, yeah . . Pseudoephedrine will fuck with your blood pressure big time
12/30/2010 12:19:28 AM
like its been wigging out for 2-3 days solid or having fits erry now and then for 2-3 days?
12/30/2010 12:29:01 AM
maybe he finally got to sleep
12/30/2010 12:36:37 AM
I hope he's just sleeping
12/30/2010 12:39:21 AM
Heh, he's probably just fine.Sounds like anxiety mixed with recovering towards better health and being completely fucked up and off schedule. My solution would be to exercise, and if that doesn't work to drink 3 or 4 beers, and if that doesn't work to take some melatonin on top of that.Keep in mind, this isn't good advice, except for the exercise part. Moderate drinking (like two drinks a night) will help relieve stress. Drink something that doesn't upset your stomach.
12/30/2010 1:21:57 AM
Summary of above post: Exercise and take drugs.
12/30/2010 1:23:09 AM
Lay off the coke for a day.
12/30/2010 1:41:16 AM
Yeah I'm still alive. Symptoms are greatly diminished, but still lingering.Yeah I know pseudoephedrine can make your heart race, it's never bothered me though. But I haven't been taking any anyway.I'm planning on going to urgent care in the morning. Hopefully they'll give me some anti-anxiety meds and I can go ahead and nip this in the bud. Thanks everyone for being so helpful!

^ Body fat and cardio have almost nothing to do with each other. You can be fat as hell and still have good cardio.Mine is around 65 right now and I feel like I have bad cardio. Back when it was around 60 bpm my doctor commented that it was a "nice slow athletic heart rate" during a physical. A strong heart pumps more blood with each beat and therefore doesn't need to work as hard when resting.I'm sure genetics plays a role in what is considered good for each individual though.[Edited on December 30, 2010 at 2:32 AM. Reason : s]
12/30/2010 2:30:39 AM
60 is what I am at right now. I wouldn't call that athletic. That just means you run on a treadmill a few times a week. Actual athletes are probably around 40 or lower.
12/30/2010 2:37:28 AM
You're probably right. But 60-80 is considered the "normal range". I'm sure a very fit person's will go lower. It would be a topic of concern if an unfit person's resting heart rate went lower though.I'm sure age plays a role as well.[Edited on December 30, 2010 at 3:07 AM. Reason : s]
12/30/2010 3:05:58 AM
DUE TO AGE
12/30/2010 3:07:24 AM
So of course after 3 days of my heart approaching a massive bloody explosion, my blood pressure dropped down to around normal about a half hour before going to the doctor. Anyway, had an ekg and my ticker looks fine, and took blood to check my thyroid. Doctor seems to think I'm going to live.[Edited on December 30, 2010 at 11:03 AM. Reason : Also I have great insurance ]

A girl died in 1933 by a homicidal murderer. He buried her in the ground when she was still alive. The murdered chanted, "Toma sota balcu" as he buried her. Now that you have read the chant, you will meet this little girl. In the middle of the night she will be on your ceiling. She will suffocate you like she was suffocated. If you post this, she will not bother you. Your kindness will be rewarded.
