1/12/2011 7:38:35 PM
Lolwut?
1/12/2011 8:12:48 PM
so these "church goers" would rather there kids be off for MLK day than Good Friday.
1/12/2011 8:20:30 PM
Seems kind of odd. I bet MLK would want these kids to be educated.
1/12/2011 8:21:23 PM
^^youre obviously white-raisedno black family wants their kids home all the time. None.my mom used to kick us out the house saturday mornin, we would walk to school just to look at the building[Edited on January 13, 2011 at 5:24 PM. Reason : d]

^^all through elementary school there were only 3 white kids in my class and my elementary school was named Booker T. Washington. I also have a fat ass. So I know all about being black. [Edited on January 13, 2011 at 5:27 PM. Reason : words]

why is MLK more important than the presidents of this country?
1/13/2011 7:59:00 PM
why is MLK more important than the presidents of this country?(or Veterans. a lot of people don't get that day off either)
1/13/2011 8:01:29 PM
1/13/2011 8:02:38 PM
Milk day, eh?
1/14/2011 1:23:49 AM
1/14/2011 1:42:50 AM
^So, what, all the accomplishments of every President combined into one day of acknowledgment is somehow inferior to civil rights movements?Veterans Day should be off.
1/14/2011 1:54:53 AM
^I thought that Presidents' Day was only established so that school-children wouldn't have the birthdays of both Washington and Lincoln off; that is, it was only meant to commemorate those two Presidents.
1/14/2011 1:59:14 AM
I don't think people are upset that the kids might have to go to school on MLK Day.They are more likely upset that very few people care about MLK Day in general. This whole school day business is just an opportunity to draw attention to our utter lack reverence for MLK Day. And nobody gives a gosh darn about Presidents, Veterans, Memorial, Labor, etc...either.Holidays that matter: whatever you celebrate in December, Spring Break, Halloween, Independence, Thanksgiving, Cinco de Mayo, and St. Patrick's Day.
1/14/2011 2:02:03 AM
^^That was the formal reasoning behind it's original creation, yeah true, but today it's colloquially referred to as Presidents Day to honor multiple presidents (instead of just the two). Even if it was just the two, I still think the argument stands. I just would be very hesitant to say MLK Day is more important than Presidents Day. They both acknowledge very critical parts of US History.[Edited on January 14, 2011 at 2:04 AM. Reason : f]
1/14/2011 2:03:46 AM
It's certainly more important to a lot of black people. And rightfully so.
1/14/2011 2:07:32 AM
^Because only blacks would value human liberties over stuffy old white guys right?
1/14/2011 2:09:35 AM
No, I didn't say anything about stuffy old white guys. So I don't know what you're talking about. You're trying to make some big deal about how there is an argument that Presidents Days is equal to MLK Day. And you would be "very hesitant" to say MLK Day is more important. My point is that to a lot of folks (I won't estimate how many), there ain't no hesitating about it. It is clear that MLK Day is more important to them. It is obvious.

I want to be black...
1/14/2011 3:12:15 AM
1/14/2011 5:44:27 AM
so mlk is more important than our presidents, as a whole?
1/14/2011 7:56:53 AM
yeah, that's what black kids need-more reasons to not gain an education. The NAACP is supposed to be all about the advancement of "colored people", and yet they want to keep them out of school (granted for one day, but still); this seems counter-intuitive of their stated goals/charter.But wait, since the majority of Congress was white when the bill was passed, and the President was white (Reagan) when the bill was signed, this is just another way of the white man keepin the black man down - by making a holiday to keep them from school. The NAACP is fucking useless
1/14/2011 8:15:36 AM
1/14/2011 8:30:31 AM
I don't think MLK would want these kids being told they were different and needed to be separated on his holiday. That's right in line with the NAACP though
1/14/2011 8:32:30 AM
All the white kids are gonna be like "No black kids at school Monday? Sweet! Let's go!" /low brow remark
1/14/2011 8:35:04 AM
1/14/2011 8:40:16 AM
LOL the survey asks you to upload a photo of yourself (optional, of course, but funny).
1/14/2011 8:45:56 AM
There's more to "education" than what you learn in school. If you celebrated MLK by visiting local civil rights landmarks or your parents taught you about civil rights then I wouldn't see any big deal with taking your kids out of school.granted most of these kids will probably watch TV or play video games
1/14/2011 8:58:02 AM
I thought they built in several optional (non holiday) teacher workdays throughout the year to use as potential make-up days. I guess they've had that many snow days?Sure beats what they did when I was a kid. They just tacked on an extra week at the end of the school year.[Edited on January 14, 2011 at 10:23 AM. Reason : -]
1/14/2011 10:23:15 AM
1/14/2011 10:59:11 AM
It's probably just gonna be 3/5ths of a day off
1/14/2011 11:02:08 AM
Charlotte schools could have prevented this with a simple memo that said. "optional snow make up day on mlk day. Only white kids are encouraged to come."
1/14/2011 11:04:55 AM
only supplanter could figure out how ot make this thread about gay rights

1/14/2011 11:12:19 AM
did you just say that black people as a whole think Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are nutjobs and don't listen to what they preach?
1/14/2011 11:15:27 AM
yes i am.the percentage is much larger than those that would blindly follow them.the older crowd still call them relevant but middle agers dont hold them that highly in regardbut I mean, you tell me how it is because...you know better.i personally consider them divisive and the opposite of the orginal need and goal of the NAACP, theyre trolls [Edited on January 14, 2011 at 11:21 AM.
