Anyone been there in Cary? I remember going in there once in the late-90s and thinking it seemed like a puppy mill front. I can't believe it's still around
1/14/2011 1:32:30 PM
yeah ive been there. plenty of people in Cary are willing to put up $800+ for puppies will tend to keep you in business. Not sure where they get their dogs from but i'm sure someone has already checked into it....
1/14/2011 1:36:50 PM
threadworthy?
1/14/2011 1:37:38 PM
anyone who pays money for any animal needs a brain scan.
1/14/2011 1:38:06 PM
^^^ They apparently get them from a puppy mill in Kansas that has a bad rep all over the internet. It's really sad. For some reason I thought NC has regulations against this sort of thing but I guess not.

I got a pretty badass hamster there one time.RIP Sammy

1/14/2011 2:11:55 PM
is this the place off/near Kildaire?
1/14/2011 2:25:19 PM
I worked there six yrs ago. So did pp. As far as I know the pups are legit. They're all vaccinated and never had serious health issues besides maybe a luxating patella here and there. The owners actually care about the animals to take proper care of themI got my dog there. He's awesome.
1/14/2011 2:39:03 PM
pet stores suckwhen you buy at a pet store you're sentencing another animal to death
1/14/2011 2:40:33 PM
So do backyard breeders. We should only adopt pets that were born because shitty owners didn't fix their pets and let them run loose and fuck. Or the ones that people didn't want anymore.
1/14/2011 2:44:05 PM
i'm all for spca and adoption. but my next dog will be from a breeder. jus sayin.....................
1/14/2011 2:49:14 PM
That's where I got mine from. There's something to be said for knowing the health background, temperament, size, longevity, etc. of the dog's parents, grand parents, etc. I could not be happier with Dimitri, and the quality of his ancestry has a lot to do with how he turned out. That said, there's a very good chance my next dog will be a shelter puppy, because I do believe in rescuing dogs.
1/14/2011 2:53:04 PM
If I wanted a specific breed, i'd obviously go to a breeder (at some point I would probably like a true mastif), but I really do think more people should look into adopting even more people should get their damn dogs spayed or neutered. I think only show dogs and purebreds, or prestigious lines of working dogs should be capable to breed.

my mom got fucked over my a golden retriever breeder in snow camp. mom told her she wanted the calmest one from the litter, darker golden if possible. when she went to pick her new pup up, the breeder said, "this one's great for you. you've got those 12 acres for her to run on." this should have been a warning sign.the dog doesn't have the personality of a golden at all. she's super dominant, absolutely NUTS, & doesn't listen at all. nothing at all like the golden i grew up with, or any of the others i've known. turns out she also has an inverted vulva...something that is easily noticed/diagnosed as a pup (by a vet), but completely missed in chelsea's case. over the last several months she's started getting horrible bladder infections & has crystals. poor girl. so she's going to have to have a vulvoplasty now at 3 years old, which her vet says would have been much better to do when she was a little puppy.my brother teases my mom for buying a $1400 defective dog. we love her anyway though. anyway, point of the story is that even if you buy a "top of the line" purebred dog from a really nice/respected breeder, you might not end up with what you were expecting.[Edited on January 14, 2011 at 3:49 PM. I wouldn't buy a bird from a pet store but I've never gotten my own dog.
1/14/2011 4:18:20 PM
I don't think theres anything wrong with getting a purebred but there is something wrong with getting a puppy mill dog. That's what youre getting with Pet Pad. The fact that so many breeds come from the same breeder should be a big red flag. That kennel has also been sited numerous times by the USDA. It's not so much the puppies at the shop that's the issue but the poor dogs they came from
1/15/2011 10:13:50 AM
They get them from a broker, who gets them from other breeders as well as the few breeds they have.
1/15/2011 10:15:03 AM
Puppy mills are I guess getting a well-known breed for its temperament doesn't help much when you don't know the parents.
1/15/2011 12:23:03 PM
^^ The brokers in turn get the puppies from mills. If you look up that breeder's USDA record it's not too hot either.Dog auctions also make me http://www.whas11.com/home/The-undercover-world-of-puppy-auctions-94783994.html

part of the blurb for that video says"a place where dogs are bought and sold like livestock"why is it okay to treat cows and pigs like shit but not puppies? i don't condone any of this shady shit for any sort of animal, but an animal is not more valuable because it is cute.
3/9/2011 8:24:50 PM
hell, some people pay more for the ugly ones.
3/9/2011 8:26:05 PM
we just went in there for a little. tons of cute dogs.Welsh Corgi puppies ftw

Pet Pad is great entertainment for my two daughters. It's like a free indoor zoo to kids under 5.Sad that Arnie died last month though. He was a cool bird.
3/10/2011 8:51:03 AM
i'm all about rescuing. however, due to my own reasons (some legit, and some admittedly stupid) i got carter from petpad....and let it be known i fucking LOVE that dog.
3/10/2011 8:58:49 AM
It's not so much about rescue vs purebred. It's the abysmal conditions the bitches are kept in their entire lives to produce pet store puppies There are plenty of legit breeders one can go to instead.
3/10/2011 9:03:27 AM
Oh damn! I didn't know arnie died! He was awesome.
3/10/2011 9:06:27 AM
and that is completely understandable.i had carters birthline and all that crap but lost it in the move (i dont really care, not like im gonna show her or anything) ...but she has absolutely spoiled me. i do believe i will be wanting another shitzu (god forbid) the day she passes
3/10/2011 9:08:45 AM
whats the name of the puppy mill?
3/10/2011 9:09:08 AM
+1, if you buy a pet store pup you might as well be torturing the dogs parents yourself.
3/10/2011 9:09:13 AM
Against my better judgment (read: total SUCKER) I got my bunny from pet padHe passed away last weekend but I'm happy knowing he lived a long happy life full of veggies, outside time, belly-cooling and hanging out in my lap getting generally spoiled. I gave him a good life [Edited on March 10, 2011 at 9:11 AM. Reason : Wickett the bunneh]

You can find the broker name online.Unfortunately bloodlines and crap can be falsified, especially if done with one of those AKC wannabe registries. The best thing to do is buy from a breeder that will let you into the home and will let you meet the puppy parents. Seeing the parents' gives a good idea of temperment. If you are really lucky the grandparents will be on site too. Personally I wouldn't bother buying from a breeder that doesn't have a CHIC number for their sire and dam either. The CHIC lets you look up all their health testing to make sure they're healthy. This is especially important in breeds with problems like hip dysplasia etc.
3/10/2011 9:17:11 AM
heh i had no clue.luckily i got carters bloodline tested100% [Edited on March 10, 2011 at 9:37 AM. Reason : told you she spoiled me-i wanna make sure she was all shitzu if i ever have to get another (shudder)]
3/10/2011 9:18:10 AM
and your $$$ helped pay the light bill at the puppy mill
3/10/2011 9:23:59 AM
"BJ and Guys kennel"thats the name of it...i think (that doesnt ring a bell with me) unfortunately i cant find any pics or hard core evidence though :/ just people claiming that they are(i am in no way saying that they arent, they probably more than certainly are, im just lookin)
3/10/2011 9:27:10 AM
^^^ I'm sure she is purebred. I meant more that theres no guarantee on the health of the parents, inbreeding, etc. Go on youtube and do a search for puppy mill videos and it will make you You can look up their record with the USDA.[Edited on March 10, 2011 at 9:29 AM. Reason : F]

I enjoy hearing about what people believe in but don't actually act upon it. 'I believe in rescuing dogs, but no mine is a breeder'Hypocritical
