Oh, how the time passed away. All the trouble that we gave and all those days we spent out by the lake. Has it all gone to waste? All the promises we made... One by one they vanish just the same. Of all the things I still remember, summer's never looked the same. The years go by and time just seems to fly, but the memories remain. In the middle of September we'd still play out in the rain. Nothing to lose but everything to gain. Reflecting now on how things could've been, it was worth it in the end.Now it all seems so clear, there's nothing left to fear. So we made our way by finding what was real. Now the days are so long now that summer's moving on. We reach for something that's already gone. We knew we had to leave this town, but we never knew when and we never knew how we would end up here the way we are.~Christopher Adam Daughtry, Roanoke Rapids, NC

Where is it that we were together? Who were you that I lived with? The brother. The friend. Darkness, light. Strife and love. Are they the workings of one mind? The features of the same face? Oh, my soul. Let me be in you now. Look out through my eyes. Look out at the things you made. All things shining.

We were a family. How'd it break up and come apart, so that now we're turned against each other? Each standing in the other's light. How'd we lose that good that was given us? Let it slip away. Scattered it, careless. What's keepin' us from reaching out, touching the glory?

This great evil. Where does it come from? How'd it steal into the world? What seed, what root did it grow from? Who's doin' this? Who's killin' us? Robbing us of life and light. Mockin' us with the sight of what we might've known. Does our ruin benefit the earth? Does it help the grass to grow, the sun to shine? Is this darkness in you, too? Have you passed to this night?

These pine trees have never tasted so good, for I remember dildos here when I was young. Docks, cocks, and glocks litter my memories of sandhills and cheap thrills. For what once was tobacco now is heroin, though it never smoked the same.
