ITT: You are not going to stick it to a towing company.

Well I've already gotten my $50 back, I'm just trying to figure out why a city of raleigh public parking sign directs people to a 24hour towing private lot. The sign says public parking after 5pm, I'm trying to figure out from the owner if they made a deal to allow this that no one told the towing company about.nevermind, found it. thank you internet[Edited on February 15, 2011 at 9:22 PM. So how are you going to stick it to a towing company if this is the city of Raleigh's oversight?
2/15/2011 9:27:55 PM
well i was being a little facetious. like i said, i already got my money back. now i want to find out what the deal is so someone can fix it so no one else gets hit.
2/15/2011 9:29:25 PM
Look at you being the good Samaritan.
2/15/2011 9:29:58 PM
i'm just not the type to roll over and take it
2/15/2011 9:30:48 PM
But you already didn't take it. So now why do you care? The city of Raleigh isn't going to give you anything.
2/15/2011 9:31:23 PM
Are you being serious? I am trying to help prevent students from getting taken for a ride and you have a problem with that? What I assume happened is that the City made a deal with the owner after the hillsborough st renovations to use the lot for public parking after 5 and the management company never told the contracted parking enforcement company. So what I want from the city is clarification if that is actually a public parking lot after 5 or if the sign is there by mistake. If the sign is there by mistake I would like the city to remove it. I will ask the property owner the same questions, and if they have made a deal to use the lot as public parking after 5 I will let the parking enforcement company know and will ask the owner to do the same. I also have contact information from a couple other people who got hit and they asked that I let them know what I found out.But this is the wolfweb, so you all have to be contrarian even if it means supporting a towing company

well the owner does not know of any agreement with the city of raleigh, talked to her this morning. she was very upset that no one had let her know.so now i just need answers from the lessee (McLaurin Parking Company) and the city

I, too, have been screwed over by a towing company

I'll be interested to hear the outcome of this. Pretty messed up if Raleigh put a sign up with no agreement established with the lot owner.

I just got off the phone with Sharon Banks. She was very interested and concerned and has copied me in on her email to the city's parking administrator and is going to give me a call with his feedback. She agreed that the sign is very confusing and has had multiple complaints about that lot but this was the first she had heard about the sign. I think I'll be able to have it removed or changed, cause fuck if any of my tax money is going to a sign to advertise such a predatory company.

Yeah, and it doesn't really take any time. Just getting to this point might have been a bitch before the internet, but I can find everything I need and write a few emails between things at work. The phone calls were the most time-consuming thing but I just worked on some stuff while I talked and it didn't take anything out of my day.

if you guys like this you should see the email and phone logs from when i got out of my t-mobile contract because I was working on a project that wasn't in the coverage area. Lots of stuff like this:-Do you have proof that you are not in the coverage area?-Well I am living in hotels for the next 6 months, and i'm not sure if my apartment back home is out of coverage-Well can you have your bills sent to the hotel?-Can I just send you my hotel bill?-No, we can not accept that. You have to forward your bills to the hotel.-OK, so you can accept a bill with the knowledge that it was sent to a hotel but can not accept direct proof that I live in this hotel?-Exactly-And it doesn't bother you how illogical this is?-What?...In the end though, I got out of the contract. If you don't mind being put on hold and getting transfered a lot or you can write an email that doesn't make you look retarded, you can usually get a lot done.

apparently some (one?) of the signs leading to the lot has changed it's wording, but not the one I mentioned. I will follow up with the city and find out what the hold-up is.
