Never been a huge Clash fan...not any one thing that sticks out as being truly eye-opening, and I find Joe Strummer's voice to be blah. And I'm NOT a big fan of political music. And I can't listen to fucking 36 tracks in a row of the same band.

One of my good friend's family had to flee Chile after Pinochet came into power. He told the stories of his grandfather being a wealthy man and having to respond to government officials knocking on the door and telling him that others would be moving into their home with them because they had too many square feet to justify the occupants living there. It's a tragedy. If you want to keep your American dream you have to remember that freedom isn't free. The Clash profited from the capitalist system selling their records yet could get away with preaching absolute tolerance as a way to push their product in bs like this.

so how much does freedom cost exactly?

All I am saying is if you work really hard all your life to get a big house, and the government comes to knock on your door to tell you that other families will be moving in with you, how would you feel?Check your tax return - that's the market value per citizen for their share of paying for our freedoms. Bet you didn't expect that answer did you? SMACK!

Snobbery aside, London Calling is both the best Clash album and, IMO, one of the ten best albums of all time. I've never heard a 19-track record (other than maybe The White Album) come as close to perfection as LC. Granted, all of The Clash's first five records are fucking amazing. Also, I hate when people make the mistake of putting The Clash solely in the context of their politics. They were just a great fucking band.[Edited on April 10, 2011 at 11:30 AM. Reason : .]
