Probably gonna be around the Shackleford area, possibly .5 mile out or so if it's calm. I know dick about it. Someone teach me in a single wolf web post what I can do today to be successful.

Go to the fish market. Best bang for buck. In my fishing experiences you never catch enough fish to offset the cost of going. It's a lose lose situation.
5/1/2011 10:36:45 AM
Can I also get a suntan, drink some beer, and cruise around on the fucking water living the damn good life in said hypothetical fish market?
5/1/2011 10:40:40 AM
Probably not, but you won't drown either.
5/1/2011 10:45:35 AM
Scuba Steve = Debbie Downer ITT
5/1/2011 10:46:53 AM
How about you stay near the bank and catch some brim and leave the real fishing to the rest of us.
5/1/2011 10:46:56 AM
5/1/2011 10:48:02 AM
it sounds like the fish are secondary to the relaxation. just drop a hook in the water and don't worry about it.
5/1/2011 10:48:17 AM
I fish strickly with Ham and Cheese, American cheese not that French Brie shit. That said I usually only catch crappe. But I throw them back anyhow, I'm with you on the "I'm in for the beer and tan" any fishing fun is just a bonus.
5/1/2011 10:50:44 AM
I'm going to head out to the beach to fish here in a bit.Right now I'm fishing for whatever the hell will bite my hook.
5/1/2011 12:03:42 PM
I, too, am going fishing
5/1/2011 12:13:59 PM
I suggest you try to catch fish. If you are trying to drink beer, catch at tan, and relax, then trying to fish for something specific is the bad move. Put some bait on, sit back, crack open a beer, and if something hits the line, try to reel that fucker in. If not, you got to hang out on a boat, drink beer, and relax. That's a winner of a day in my book.
5/1/2011 12:20:52 PM
now I want to go fish and drink beer
5/1/2011 12:22:53 PM
5/1/2011 12:53:52 PM
i don't think he'll catch many crappie a half mile off of shackleford...
5/1/2011 2:00:25 PM
2 hook bottom rig or a double spec rig. buy the freshest shrimp you can find. white = fresh. cut up some small pieces and put it on the double rig. drop it to the bottom and drift. this is the best way to catch sea mullet, which are very good eating. there's a area of 50' deep water on the front side of shackleford just a little ways out of beaufort inlet that is my favorite place to try for sea mullet.you could also jig stingsilvers around the inlet, just inside or just outside and possibly catch some blues. they aren't great to eat, but they are edible. they're kinda fun to catch on lighter tackle, especially if you get into larger ones.since you didn't state what type of tackle you have, that's the best i can do.[Edited on May 1, 2011 at 8:25 PM. Reason : why not post in the fishing thread?]
5/1/2011 8:25:21 PM
Shit. Blues are fine eating IF you eat 'em the day you catch 'em. Broiled with lots of lemon or battered and fried.Damn, I love good fish.
5/1/2011 9:02:41 PM
5/1/2011 9:04:05 PM
You gotta bleed them fairly quickly.
5/1/2011 9:04:52 PM
U gotta cut that dark meat off the filets too. They aren't worth the trouble to me. Best used as bait. Live or cut.
5/1/2011 9:21:21 PM
The dark meat's good, son. Love me some blues. But then I like my fish to taste like fish.
5/1/2011 9:27:44 PM
yeah, blues make much better bait than food.
5/1/2011 9:28:22 PM
I can't wait to go out with my friends on their boat and go trolling
5/1/2011 9:28:46 PM
compliments
5/1/2011 10:12:06 PM
^ haha I just came to post"How do you like my new outfit?"
5/1/2011 10:26:17 PM
so did you catch anything?
5/4/2011 6:28:28 PM
I caught a 2" bluegill on my light rig today at lunch. Was going to throw him out on a big hook but I was running out of time. The little fucker jumped about 3' out of the water after the bobber went under. Quite a thrill on a 5' rod.

6/2/2011 9:45:40 PM
I'll be doing some fishing on Lake James this weekend. Trying to catch some bass or crappie. or anything really, the fish there are cunts.
6/2/2011 9:48:06 PM
^^ Yes I did I guess I could dance a jig with a flounder.
6/2/2011 9:48:49 PM
well, i have caught some flounder jigging stingsilvers and bucktails, but i didn't figure you'd be too interested in that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jigging[Edited on June 2, 2011 at 9:54 PM. Reason : gigging is for punks]
6/2/2011 9:53:56 PM
are you trying to call Poseidon a punk?and you have to be pretty good with your eyes to find flounder buried in the sand at night, and be pretty quick with your gig cause those motherfuckers will bolt once they hear the gig hitting the water
6/2/2011 10:16:57 PM
i don't really care to debate it
6/2/2011 10:21:57 PM
I will be gigging as soon as I get around to getting the gear for it. Love me some fried flounder!
6/2/2011 10:23:29 PM
had a rig on a canoe back in the day with two floodlights mounted on each side of about a 3' pipe with the wiring inside connected to a car battery...would put it on the canoe with the lights facing downwards and paddle around sandbars at low-tide at night...well it was less paddling and more "gondola" steering with the gig, but it was fun...you see some crabs and gar and other critters while you're looking for flounder]
6/2/2011 10:37:51 PM
My first cast at Wrightsville I apparently short-lined my reel. It went *SNAP* and my bottom rig was flung into the Atlantic. Also if you cuss really loud, it echoes down around the point and the ppl at the coast guard station give you a stern look MOTHER FUCKER UCKER UCKER UCKER UCKER ucker ucker ucer
6/3/2011 8:15:22 AM
probably didn't flip the bail or had the line wrapped around the reel body or an eye or something. it happens. just tie another bottom rig up. homemade ones catch more fish anyway.
6/3/2011 9:01:29 AM
I just thought the line was frayed or rotted but you're probably right about it wrapping around the reel. I checked to see if I flipped the bail, 'cause that's embarrassing when that shit happens I'll have to look into making a bottom rig
6/3/2011 9:17:15 AM
Could've just been wrapped around the top eye which is easy if you're not careful.
6/3/2011 9:26:22 AM
you can make a 2 hook bottom rig with a few feet of 30 lb test and 4 knots. all you need is 2 hooks, the sinker, and possibly a barrel swivel. the store bought ones have a lot of flashy crimps and snaps that often won't catch near as many fish.
6/3/2011 10:29:38 AM
the second pic at this link is what i'm talking about: http://www.flfish.com/how_to/Btmfshng.htmmatter of fact, i use all 4 of those types of bottom rigs pretty often. the first one is a basic live bait and/or flounder rig. you switch up the weight, hook size/type, and leader length to match the targeted species and condition. the second one is basic 2 hook bottom rig and you can even make them have 3 or 4 hooks for spots or right on up to 7 or 8 hooks for a gold hook rig for spanish and grass shad for bait. the third is a 3 way swivel rig like i use for cut bait fishing for puppy drum in the marshes. you can throw it right in the grass and wear them out. the 4th is what i use for sheepshead around the pilings. i usually use a wire leader with it.
