These guys are crazy.
5/11/2011 12:13:50 PM
they tried way too hard with that one
5/11/2011 12:23:47 PM
I think it works best when the celebrity guest only adds to the performance. Not when they dominate the whole song.
5/11/2011 12:25:31 PM
it just seems like Bolton was sitting around thinking "how can I be relevant again?" and his kid told them about The Lonely Islandfeels way too forced
5/11/2011 12:27:36 PM
pretty sure they were going for that"Entertainment Weekly: How did the digital short come about?Michael Bolton: The Lonely Island guys reached out to my management and said they wanted to do this. I said, “I love those guys. But what are they thinking?” I was automatically scanning through my memory banks of the most wicked language and visuals. You want to work with guys like this. But at the same time I get invitations to perform at the Vatican! [Laughs] It could be potentially uncomfortable. And in the first few approaches some of the language was just so intense and off-color."'How much input did you have into the music? The hooks really are quite Bolton-esque.They came up with the music. They created this big giant hook. I’m sure they felt, “Hey, this is a Bolton kind of hook,” in their minds. I just sang it in a studio in Atlanta on a night off. The guys were on through Skype. They’re serious about their comedy but they’re really serious about the details. They were focused on the minutiae that great record producers focus on, not comedy writers. And I love seeing that work ethic. These guys were inspiring.'[Edited on May 11, 2011 at 12:34 PM. 5/11/2011 1:25:12 PM
i dont watch snl actually, it fell off bigtime. randomly came across it looking for who says were wack
5/11/2011 1:27:09 PM
Yeah, I love their stuff. You have to like stupid humor though. My wife hates it. Threw it to the Ground, Dick in a Box, Shy Ronnie, and this one are my favorites.
5/11/2011 1:29:00 PM
anyone who says SNL fell off is not a person who has watched it consistentlyoccasionally there is a show without any good sketches, but that's rareon top of that, there have been weak shows and strong shows in every seasonwhich is the nature of a 90 minute comedy program that is written in just over two days every goddamn week
5/11/2011 1:30:59 PM
once again i agree with vinylbandit.but not in a gay way. unless he said so.in which case i would let him have me.
5/11/2011 1:32:49 PM
Turtleneck and Chain dropped yesterday btw. Nothing as good as the one's we've already seen as shorts though. Title track with Snoop is aight, Shy Ronnie2: Ronnie and Clyde, and Rocky are really the only other tracks worth listening to more than once.
5/11/2011 1:33:02 PM
i know everyone has always said the current cast isnt as good as who was there before, but honestly ive watched 4 or 5 in the past year and i havent laughedso no, i dont watch it consistently, but i havent seen anything good enough to make me want to.[Edited on May 11, 2011 at 1:39 PM. Reason : .]

The best part about SNL is that for 35 years people have been able to talk about how it's "not as good as it used to be".Your parents did it and your grandkids will do it.
5/11/2011 1:40:39 PM
I think the show would improve if it cut down to an hour.People's attention spans aren't that long anymore.90 minutes is an eternity.
5/11/2011 1:44:05 PM
The personalities just aren't good anymore. It reminds me of watching lame kids on youtube doing skits.
5/11/2011 1:47:28 PM
^^agreed, i think that also creates skits that get drawn out, and things that started off funny end as annoying[Edited on May 11, 2011 at 1:48 PM. Reason : .]
5/11/2011 1:48:07 PM
^ THAT has been happening since the very beginningthere's a new york magazine article called "comedy isn't funny" about how SNL doesn't have any great personalities any more and the show has worn thinthe cast in question is myers/farley/sandler/spade etc., who people my age act like are golden fucking godsIT'S ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS
5/11/2011 1:50:00 PM
^4 Agreed, but not because of attention spans. Cutting to an hour would force them to cut a few bad/boring skits and maybe shorten up some of the skits to prevent them from retelling the same joke over and over until the time limit has been reached... which likely speaks to my attention span.Maybe even get rid of one of the two musical guest performances. They always suck anyway and usually that's the time I go to bed or change the channel. Right before the first musical guest performance because I know it will be commercials, musical guest, commercials which means a good 10-12 minutes with no skits - might as well call it a night.^5 I guess everyone has their favorite era, but the Farley, Spade, Sandler, Hartman, McDonald, Carvey, Myers, Lovitz, etc. era was the best IMO. SNL largely sucked before then and really sucks after then. I remember the recent SNL where Carvey hosted where they joked about his era having the best cast. After seeing some of those guys again and then watching the current cast it really put things into perspective/contrasted - and yeah, it was better then. The only thing that was consistently funny after that group was gone were the Gore vs. Bush skits.[/old fart][Edited on May 11, 2011 at 1:55 PM. thats because the magazine article was probably targeted at old people. i watched it every saturday night with my parents growing up. the older generation was used to steve martin generation doing shit like king tut, and sandler/farley/spade etc came off as immature. [Edited on May 11, 2011 at 1:55 PM. Reason : .]
5/11/2011 1:52:52 PM
new york magazine is certainly not targeted at old peopleand for the record, i think that cast is very average. plenty of good stuff, and certainly better than charles rockett, but not the comic geniuses that people claim.^ you have no idea what you're talking about.the problem is people remember the highlights of those casts, like gap girls and matt foley, but forget things like excruciatingly long opera man bits ]

i liked mango when it got super-meta with ben affleck, but that was long after it had ceased to be useful in any other waysame thing with nu-ni; the concept is great, but i don't need to see it more than twicerunning something into the ground in the name of giving people what they like has been and always will be lorne's fatal flaw
5/11/2011 2:22:41 PM
i never attacked your knowledge of the subject. im saying that the younger generation i knew felt differently about things. my friends/family in different states who are my age.....we all loved it. the older generation didnt. im going by my personal experience back then, youre going by what a critic/magazine had to say.[Edited on May 11, 2011 at 2:23 PM.
