i couldnt help but notice that the extreme couponing people are really just well organized hoardersi want to do the extreme coupon deal someday but im gonna just donate all that shit. it made me angry watching and these people have more than enough crap to last them through three apocalypses and but they keep it, thats awful!
5/17/2011 10:36:59 PM
i think toothpaste and deodorant has a pretty long shelf-life
5/17/2011 10:38:38 PM
^^ I wonder how much of their food is past its expiration date on that show too. They should be using their powers for good, not hoarding
5/17/2011 10:46:23 PM
doesn't one person on that show donate a shitload of the food to homeless shelters?the lady being investigated for coupon fraud is a bonafide hoarder, though....
5/17/2011 10:47:49 PM
I mean don't you think corporate vendors offer manufacturer discounts specifically targeted at inventory approaching expiration?I would wager much of the couponers' inventories are sitting on the shelf far past suggested expiration as a result of targeted coupons at old inventory. Of course it's not unhealthful to consume or illegal to own, just not authorized for commercial sale past date....
5/17/2011 10:56:28 PM
one lady had hundreds of bags of cat treats... and didn't own a catdid it never cross her mind to donate that shit??!!??! that made me so mad
5/17/2011 10:59:35 PM
My boyfriend bought a shit ton of honey nut cheerios because they were on sale. Every box has tasted bad [Edited on May 17, 2011 at 11:06 PM. Reason : .]
5/17/2011 11:01:45 PM
oh noes! thats terrible
5/17/2011 11:02:34 PM
Hey now, I had a coupon too
5/17/2011 11:05:12 PM
I don't think it's fair to get "mad" at somebody for hoarding cat treats or any grocery item for that matter. They are definitely messed up in the dome piece...so it kinda seems like a weak group to be going after.Plus, people are selfish with their stuff/money/time/space all the time. I mean, are you pissed at the 75% of homes in Raleigh that add needless pollution to the environment so they can keep 3-10 extra rooms heated/cooled when they don't even use them? And didn't it occur to them that homeless people could be using those rooms?!?! How selfish! I'm so angry![Edited on May 17, 2011 at 11:12 PM. Reason : Not trying to pick a fight, just defending the crazy cat treat lady.]
5/17/2011 11:11:45 PM
lol they are a weak group to go after. i get that everyone has their own right to do with what they have whatever they want, whether its to hoard it or donate it. i just dont get the cat treat thing. i get the rooms deal, space on this earth that someone can call their own is precious to most people.. but cat treats... cat treats, really. i just thought of that damn aspca commercial which i never ever ever feel bad when watching because my heart is cold and dead, but when i saw the cat treats and thought of aspca... my heart thawed just a tiny bit
5/17/2011 11:17:57 PM
5/17/2011 11:18:29 PM
fuck the ASPCA
5/17/2011 11:18:44 PM
i feel like i could very easily fall into extreme couponinghowever i also know that i would donate whatever i couldn't use or give away to friends and get that motherfuckin tax write offwould it be possible to donate enough to where you wouldn't owe taxes?

I keep enough for X length of time depending on what it is....When there is a great deal, I rotate the new in for the old keeping my stash at the same level and donate the rest to a church outreach. I can't tell you how excited they get for formula. (I starting getting in the deals when I was pregnant and he hadn't gone on formula when the early purchases started to expire) I have had small stash sales to cover the cost of my coupons (usually coinciding with a personal yard sale).Several people on the show had a system where they kept track of the expiration dates. I obviously can't talk but I will say my son is 8 months old and I have yet to pay for a diaper or a wipe. I still have about 1500 diapers/training pants left. I have paid for no formula and I have enough to finish him off until he is 18 months. I will have paid less than 5 dollars for 300 jars of baby food. When I was pregnant, I read the diapers & wipes averaged around $500 for the 1st year. So I basically paid myself that money to coupon. I am not picky, so when I don't coupon for a few weeks I will just go to RA and do a deal so I can get free milk and we will eat off the stash. I don't have a room dedicated to stash items per say, but I don't HAVE to buy really any cleaning, laundry, or personal care item for about 3 months.

Also, my accountant said we could only deduct what we paid (nothing) not what the replacement cost would be.
5/17/2011 11:35:58 PM
good to know. i'd do it for the tax benefit and also because it would be an awesome thing to just donate mass amounts of resources to food banks, shelters and animal shelters
5/17/2011 11:36:27 PM
^I donate to St. Marys Outreach in Wilmington. The nun that works there sends me a personal thank you every time. She sent me a picture of the baby one time that got all the formula......[Edited on May 17, 2011 at 11:38 PM. Reason : ]
