I have a bit of driving anxiety (go ahead and make fun)...I've been to Wilmington before but it was several years ago. How bad is the drive...is it deserted for a long time, or are there a lot of exits/houses/stops along the highway?
5/25/2011 12:10:54 PM
it's a 2 lane....mostly through the woods[Edited on May 25, 2011 at 12:13 PM. Reason : sadf]

It's boring as fuck, but there are plenty of stops along the way. The longest stretch without any gas stations and whatnot is probably about 10 miles.
5/25/2011 12:13:11 PM
^What he said. Boring ass drive. Going through a lot of woods and farmland. A few exits here and there.
5/25/2011 12:14:38 PM
I sympathize with you. It's not that bad, though. If you have time to kill, I'm pretty sure you can preview the entire trip with Google Street View.
5/25/2011 12:14:44 PM
not a bad drive, not too long and its a straight shot to wilmingtonthere's many exits the whole wayits never really deserted, but you do spend a significant portion of the time going through country-ish, not very populated areas
5/25/2011 12:16:07 PM
It may get a little trafficy when you come into Wilmington. Other than that, it's a smooth shot.
5/25/2011 12:17:59 PM
not trying to be a douche, just curious......is the driving anxiety driven by traffic, chaos, etc. or is it some fear of being stranded in an unfamiliar area, etc.it's a pretty smooth drive though
5/25/2011 12:18:57 PM
What a bizarre thread. +1 Would read again.
5/25/2011 12:20:37 PM
oh boy do I hate that drive. Boring drive is boring.

Don't forget to bring quarters for the tolls once you hit Sampson County.
5/25/2011 12:25:39 PM
what tolls?
5/25/2011 12:26:05 PM
5/25/2011 12:28:58 PM
the tolls for the tunnels.
5/25/2011 12:36:13 PM
it is seriously one of the easiest drives ever
5/25/2011 12:37:32 PM
oh, the tunnels that go under water?
5/25/2011 12:38:42 PM
make sure you bring plenty of axles and a few spare oxen. do not, DO NOT, give that injun guide your money, just caulk your shit and float across the rivers.choosing the banker helps out a lot, you can buy more supplies which may offset your anxiety.around Fort Laramie check out my sweet tombstone. (spoiler: it says "ASS died of dysentery" poor ASS )
5/25/2011 12:40:35 PM
There's a pretty long stretch that smells like assbiscuits
5/25/2011 12:46:11 PM
more boring ~two hours: durham-richmond on 85, or raleigh-wilmington on 40?
5/25/2011 12:49:03 PM
the VA part of 85 to Richmond suuuuuuuuuuuuucks. i hate the trees and those fucking cops that hide in the little cuts every few milesespecially between 12 and 28 .... 90% of my trips on that stretch i see a lot of cops. i just had to pay 486 bucks to get out of a ticket for 84 in a 70cruise was set on 78 and i hit the gas to pass someone in a curve and on the other side a cop was gunning radar.
5/25/2011 12:52:08 PM
I drove from Wilmington to Asheville on Sunday. That was a boring-ass drive.
5/25/2011 12:52:51 PM
Probably the easiest drive between decent sized cities in North Caroline. I don't see how you could possibly have anxiety about this.
5/25/2011 1:11:34 PM
5/25/2011 1:16:13 PM
Thanks guys...traffic and accidents are not what cause my anxiety...I just dont like being in unfamiliar places where I feel like I can't get off the highway or be near some sort of civilization
5/25/2011 1:28:37 PM
your in NC there is no civilization
5/25/2011 1:35:26 PM
Oh well you're going to just LOVE the majority of that drive then.
5/25/2011 1:35:55 PM
Just get on 40. When you see the corn make a left. Takes like 30 minutes topsI'm AstralAdvent and I approved this message.[Edited on May 25, 2011 at 1:36 PM. Reason : literally can't miss wilmington]

this was funny

5/25/2011 2:01:29 PM
It's only a 2 hr drive. Man the fuck up.
5/25/2011 2:13:12 PM
you must be driving mighty slow if you only make it in 2 hours
5/25/2011 2:15:42 PM
you should probably have a few drinks before you goyou know, to take the edge offalso keep a half pint of whiskey in the cup holder "in case shit"
5/25/2011 2:53:13 PM
Whenever I go from Raleigh to Charlotte I make a thread about it and take no less than three valium
5/25/2011 2:54:07 PM
5/25/2011 2:59:51 PM
^speed limit is 70 the whole way. Unless you're hovering around the speed limit the entire time its a lot shorter than that. I was at Carolina Beach last weekend and the door to door drive took less than 2 hours, including driving through Wilmington.

5/25/2011 3:22:01 PM
^^^It's 120 miles. At 80 mph the whole way, it would take you 1 hr 30 min. 2 hrs is about right with one stop and taking traffic into account.[Edited on May 25, 2011 at 3:23 PM. Reason : .]
5/25/2011 3:22:37 PM
I've never been to Wilmington.Also...Pat is a douche
5/25/2011 3:23:10 PM
traffic is never an issue and unless you are over the age of 65, there is no need to stop
5/25/2011 3:24:11 PM
^^^there isn't traffic most of the time and why would anyone need to stop on a drive that short?^^ I mean, when describing a trip from one place to another you can make it as long as you want by stopping often for random reasons. The fact of the matter is if you get in a car and drive a reasonable speed it is easily under 2 hours on average.[Edited on May 25, 2011 at 3:26 PM. Reason : k][Edited on May 25, 2011 at 3:26 PM.
