You know that funky sponge smell that every sink sponge gets eventually, that acute musk that stays on your hands for an hour after the slightest touch of the thing? I do dishes every day, wring the sponge out and set it so that it can air dry properly and even brand new ones get it within a week or so. WHAT'S A GIRL BOY TO DO??

I microwave mine 2:00 before every other use. No major funk observed. Sure, it smells a little funny if you get right up to it and sniff the thing, but nothing travels on the hands.

I put mine in the dishwasher every time I run it. Make sure to use the "sanitize" setting if you have it.
5/28/2011 12:34:34 AM
I use one of theseDoesn't really have that problem. The chamber on then top holds soap, just push the top and some soap comes out.
5/28/2011 12:47:04 AM
pour some bleach in your sink, and some hot water. let the sponge soak overnight.
5/28/2011 1:10:56 AM
pour some bleach in a tupperware container a little larger than your sponge. let the sponge soak overnight.
5/28/2011 1:14:46 AM
fill your bathtub with bleach, put the sponge in the tub and let it soak for 3 weeks.
5/28/2011 1:17:09 AM
Fill your mouth with bleach, then put the sponge in your mouth and swallow. When it comes out it will be perfectly clean.

why don't you just put it in the dishwasher? isn't there like a special spot for it in the silverware holder even?
5/28/2011 3:32:03 AM
Throw the thing away. It costs 50 cents

5/28/2011 9:04:44 AM
at home I put sponges in the dishwasher every few days, but microwaving it works well too.

Never liked any of those sink tools like ^^ or the one posted earlier or any other fanciful contraption...just gimme a dual-sided sponge and some elbow grease...and occasionally steel wool and cometI will have to give this microwave thing a try. Perhaps also the dishwasher, though there is no sanitize setting on mine[Edited on May 28, 2011 at 11:59 AM. Reason : ooooĊ]

^^agreed, i like the dishwasher method and i think it works better than teh microwave (cause sometimes the microwave picks up that smell afterwards...yuck!
5/28/2011 12:10:24 PM
I have never used the microwave or the dishwasher, i've just always tossed the sponges once they started stankin.Thank you TWW for helping me become a greener person.
