True story Oh and they can't ever be broken, they can only be stairs

I like how the current non-functioning escalators on the metro system are now a daily segment of the evening news

Yay Mitch The only thing worse than escalators are people who don't know how to use them. Hold up, it says no strollers so let me spend extra time securing my kid while obstructing traffic before I get on anyway.

Yeah, the DC metro's habit of blocking off perfectly good broken escaltor/stairs confuses me.I always have a moment of mind-shattering terror when I take the first step on a down elevator. There's a flash of me hurdling ass over teakettle, killing myself and taking out a dozen other people in the process.

I used to go the wrong way on escalators all the time. It was the heat when I was like 10

I've only been on them once when they broke. Scary shit

Yeah, I think the fear is you'll be riding (or walking) up/down, and the escalator starts suddenly, accelerates suddenly, or stops suddenly.

One time when I was a kid my pants leg got stuck in it. My Mom had to rip my pants to get me out.

Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent--I don't care which one--but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator!

it was my Mom's fault for making me wear pants that were obviously too long. I was an annoying kid, so I understand.
