I'm going to the bulls game tomorrow night and want to bar hop after. Is downtown Durham nightlife anything like downtown Raleigh or is it just a bunch of black people standing on a corner shooting dice and drinking 40s?I'd also like to add that I love black people. I'm just not a big fan being the only cracker.

right around the corner from fullsteam/motorco is the geer st beer garden. This is my favorite spot in Durham.

The ghetto in chapel hill looks like brent rd except replace the bmws with 80s chrystlers. Also its not really near anything except last resort parking and is like a total of 2 blocksActually in all my days in ch the most sketched I've ever felt is when a dude asked me if I wanted to buy hedgeclippers at 10pm outside the reservoir.I'm astraladvent and I approved this message[Edited on July 22, 2011 at 8:49 AM. Reason : next closest is probably smoking inside a friends house when their parents were home... ]

Plenty of good places to go for a drink adjacent to the ballpark (Tyler's, Cuban Revolution, Tobacco Road) though they will be crowded post-game. A short drive or a rather long walk (10-15 minutes?) away you have the Brightleaf/West Main area (Alivia's, West End, Bull McCabe's, Whiskey, and a number of other places). North and east of the old Bulls stadium you have Fullsteam/Motorco/Geer St. Beer Garden, but there isn't really anything else up there so don't plan to walk anywhere from there. There are unsavory elements of downtown but don't go looking for trouble and it won't come looking for you.

10 15 years ago durham was def worse but the bad parts these days are so far away from anything that you couldn't even get lost and end up there. Like no one even lives on pettigrew anymore...I'm astraladvent and I approved this message

downtown durham is not any better or worse than raleighs downtownthe surrounding residential streets are the problems, but the downtown area is not bad at all. Theres not even that many bums.

Mature posts ITTHowever, feel like I should chime in. I would go to the Whiskey if you don't mind bars that still let you smoke inside. They do have a relatively light dress code (i.e. no hats/flip flops). Very chill place. Otherwise - the Federal, Bull McCabes, Motorco, Geer Street Garden, West End Wine Bar and I guess Fullsteam is...okay, but I really don't care for their beers.
