94% that any two students came from different states? That is nuts.

Duke loves them some out-of-state monies.lol Warren Wilson collegehttp://chronicle.com/article/Interactive-Freshman-Class/129547/#id=199865Does anyone actually know someone who graduated from there? I imagine their average alumnus looks something like this[Edited on November 3, 2011 at 12:15 PM. Reason : a]

Yeah but with their tuition being so high I doubt they could find enough North Carolinians to fill their seats if they suddenly decided to focus more on in-state students. That's a big reason for them more heavily recruiting in states like California and New York than they do here. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just what they do.

Duke also gives a shit load of grants to those who can't afford the school. One of my best friends is going there for 8k total over 4 years
11/3/2011 12:25:31 PM
Yeah unfortunately a lot of that grant money flew out the window with the recession which sucks for incoming freshmen. I wonder how it's affected their overall grant percentages.

I thought people applied to colleges instead of the college recruiting them. They dont care where the money comes from. People come from out of state because it is a prestigious university.

LOL, I love CCU's enrollment over the years. Increase over time of admissions from NJ (and other northern states)---Jersey Shore South!

Spent my freshmen and part of my sophmore year at UNC-Greensboro

^^ A college in Myrtle Beach attracts guidos? Say it isn't so!
11/3/2011 2:30:47 PM
I wonder what attracts those "1 Freshman came from Washington / New Mexico / Utah / Etc." to NC State
11/3/2011 2:34:38 PM
Wouldn't be surprised if they're in the engineering or statistics.
11/3/2011 2:37:37 PM
I worry about the accuracy of this. I came from Nevada to NC State in 1998...it notes 0 that year.
11/3/2011 2:44:14 PM
Residency off campus / for tuition purposes?Or whatever.
11/3/2011 2:45:22 PM
I'm guessing they're pulling it from the university's self-reported demographic numbers so it depends on how each university reports that.
11/3/2011 2:50:42 PM
It really depends for out of state students. I chose NC State over Penn State and Pitt because I liked it a lot better during my visit and I'm an engineer.

^Really? I thought their endowment was like the largest it's ever been. They've been building all sorts of stuff lately.
11/3/2011 3:58:31 PM
That had plans to build a lot of stuff but a lot of it has been scaled back or put on the back burner for the time being. And endowments have all sorts of rules and regs associated with them. You can't easily put money from one area into another like you can with say corporate profits.
