agreed, bought my washer and dryer from them, quality product and great customer service

their employees actually seem to study up on the products and features and don't just push you on the deal of the week or the latest technology.that being said, it's a weird store.

I'm pretty sure the employees are trained or take classes on the products. The employee knowledge is a major part of their business model.
12/8/2011 8:57:44 AM
i hate that placethey have like one thing in each categorythe selection is poori won't ever go there again
12/8/2011 9:03:57 AM
^yeh, their selection can be lacking
12/8/2011 9:06:54 AM
This place is 10x better than any other big box electronics store. I bought my refrigerator from them and I'll definitely be purchasing my future appliances from them
12/8/2011 9:11:12 AM
i'm not into it. say i want a dishwasher. if i can get a screaming deal for it somewhere else for $600 for example, why would i want to go to hhgreg and have to haggle down the price from $850 to $600? Why not just Walk into the other store where I don't have to have a play the stupid games?i can understand haggling for the fun of it at the flea market or something, but for bigger most purchases i'm motivated by price, and i'll go wherever it's lowest, hhgreg included...but they're rarely the lowest and i usually don't feel like negotiating to match some better price i can get somewhere else.
12/8/2011 9:24:29 AM
I've been in there just browsing a time or two, but I definitely got the "salesmen watching your every move" vibe. Left in a hurry...won't go back. If I need anything electronics its always cheaper to shop and buy online anyway

Why anyone (under the age of 40) would buy electronics in a retail store is beyond meI'm Krallum and I approved this message
12/8/2011 9:29:19 AM
I might consider them if, one day, i'm in the need for an appliance.other than that, big box stores exist so i can see something in person before I purchase it from Amazon. or some other online venue.
12/8/2011 9:29:52 AM
^ exactly, though i typically purchase appliances locally, through the store's website whenever i see something good pop up on slickdeals or something like that
12/8/2011 9:52:17 AM
I don't know. We got HHGregg to price match on some "midnight madness sale" Sears was having on their website. We took a screenshot of the sale and brought it in. They matched the price and gave an additional 10% off. Ended up getting the washer and dryer for much less than we would have anywhere else. And making zero interest payments over 18-months made it easy too.

first and only time my wife and I went into one we walk into the door to be greeted by 5 employees. They asked if we needed help, stated very quickly "we dont make commission, we are here to help" and we politely said we were just looking around. We then proceeded to make a few laps around the store, the entire time one of their employees stayed about 10 feet back from us just following us, not saying a word. It was entertaining for about 5 minutes when we tried to lose him in the fridge section, but he found us. He never said a word.We left. It was kinda creepy.

I have never been followed or hassled by HHGregg employees. Asked if I needed help a few times, yes. But nothing ever creepy or hounding.

I worked at an HH Gregg store from July 2010 until April of this year while looking for a non-retail job. Pay is 100% Commission versus a draw rate of minimum wage (Draw rate is hell if you have to take it constantly, as you have to pay it back - can pigeonhole the job into being a minimum wage job ad infinitum). I worked in Home Appliances, so pay was either livable or damn near minimum wage, depending on how the two weeks went. And by two weeks, I don't mean how product sales went, I mean how warranty/PSP/Whatever it's called now sales went. Sales of extended warranties made or broke your paycheck like nothing else. They could literally be the difference between taking home $1,000 or $500. I won't even get into how the pay is structured for them - suffice it to say, very few products there, aside from mattresses and a few big refrigerators/TVs were even worth much to sell without a service plan. They also train you to greet everyone pretty much as soon as they get in the door. And train you to keep a ten foot maximum in between you and any customers not actively engaged with an associate. This is just how they want it done. Enforcement of this varies store to store with management though. I had some managers that would flip their shit if you "dropped" someone and left them alone, and had others that didn't care. We were also trained to take the response "I'm just looking" three times before dropping back to stalk someone. Negotiating there is in some ways just like at a car lot - they have a "cost" that the store can't go under unless it's a straight price match. Anything else is just looking at the numbers, seeing if your offer is above "cost" (which isn't really cost IMO, but they never told us where the number actually came from), and then it's all the manager on duty's discretion as to whether to take it or not. And they will always, always, always take business from Sears if they can. They truly want to take Sears out of the appliance market. Working there was significantly better than the other retail I worked for years, but damn it could get really boring at times waiting on customers to walk in.

My bf had a great experience with HHGregg. He had done his research and decided what he was willing to pay for the product. Went in and said to the salesperson "If you can get me this for such and such price, I will buy it from you right now." The salesman said ok, went and checked and added a dollar because it put him in the next commission bracket. Sounds like a good strategy to me! Will buy again.
