I was talking with a twenty-something, Americanized woman yesterday; who originated from Ghana. She had a firm buttocks, but fairly large teeth. It was very interesting to hear how her parents raised her to think about all blacks in America.Kunta, literally translated as "lazy black American", was considered one of the worst insults in her culure. She was raised to think of all blacks here that way, because in Ghana, that is all they see on television. having grown up in the suburbs here, around black doctors and lawyers, she told me that her view had changed over the years.... However, she still looks down on American blacks as lazy people who dont take advantage of education opportunities, and who complain about oppression from THE MAN.I think there is some truth in what she told me in regards to SOME blacks in America. Then again, this describes SOME people of any race. Then part of me thinks that the woman is ill informed about the oppression from THE MAN, because her family has only been here for like 10 years. What do you european people, indians, chinese, japanese, , american, black, african, mexican, and middle eastern (sans saudis) people think about this?

Is this a conversation about a word most people only know from Lavar Burton, or a more deeply rooted struggle with your place as black man in America? Because while I've never heard anyone use the term in a pejorative manner, I also don't know anyone from Africa, save for my South African neighbor, who's whiter than anyone here.Oh, and with some notable exceptions, I still look down on American blacks as lazy people who dont take advantage of education opportunities, and who complain about oppression from THE MAN.

As quasi-successful minorities, I'd like to think the two of you would have a more keen insight on the inner workings of the first generation/domesticated immigrant dynamic, but then I remember you don't.
