it was decent back in the day when I took it. good overview of databases and pretty good for teaching you basic concepts on how not to make a shitty database. you won't really learn much in the way of SQL, though.

I'd rather have a legion of database designers who can't write SQL but understand referential integrity than one more goddamn SQL wizard who doesn't know his normal forms.

440It was decent. Though I'd rather have a legion of programmers that know the difference between when to use and not use a SQL database and have to make performance decisions on when to use referential integrity or not.

^^^HAHAHAHAIt took me FOREVER to explain to my boss why we didn't want to just build it and throw data in it willy-nilly. Normals are there for a reason; and you reap benefits when you need access to that data.[Edited on January 6, 2012 at 11:39 AM. Reason : ^]

i don't know that I could tell you the various normal forms, but I imagine that I set up tables decently well, not that it's really all that hard to do
