To clean out glass or plastic or whatever else shouldn't be in there? How much does it freak you out from 1-10?
1/19/2012 10:32:47 AM
1 because i throw the breaker but i have seen horror movies before
1/19/2012 10:34:31 AM
Mine won't fit past the knuckles and dangling my fingers three inches above the bottom does basically no good if something falls in there.
1/19/2012 10:35:02 AM
8, never done it, but the OP freaked me out
1/19/2012 10:35:47 AM
1/19/2012 10:36:53 AM
I have to do this about once a month because my wife is indiscriminate about shit she throws in there.
1/19/2012 10:36:54 AM
I do it all the time. Freak out level is usually around a 3 or 4...so I think about bad shit happening a little bit, but I know that it's PROBABLY not going to happen.
1/19/2012 10:37:28 AM
Throw the Breaker sounds like a stupid band name
1/19/2012 10:39:17 AM
8 I stare at the on/off switch the entire time my hand is down there willing the switch to remain in the off position.
1/19/2012 10:40:27 AM
My old place had 2 sinks with 2 garbage disposals, so I'd get people to dig their hand down one of them and turn on the other to totally freak them out. One girl was so scared she yanked her hand out fast enough that she banged it on the faucet and broke some metacarpals. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm kind of an asshole.
1/19/2012 10:43:41 AM
^That's grounds for an ass whoopin.I'm super freaked out by that kind of thing...although, that probably stems from having the tips of my fingers almost completely chopped off in a blender.
1/19/2012 10:47:08 AM
11. It doesn't matter if I turn off all the breakers in the entire house. I still think it's going to come back alive like something out of Maximum Overdrive.
1/19/2012 10:47:46 AM
at least a 7 or an 8i dont believe its gonna cut on randomly but the dark hole part is scary
1/19/2012 11:03:58 AM
thats what a pair of kitchen tongs is for
1/19/2012 11:04:31 AM
I never threw the breaker and maybe had a 1-2 freak out. Although; if you buy one of the giant allen wrench keys to go in the bottom 99% of that stuff you can just grind through. Toss a lemon halve in after it and you're good to go.When I rented a place with a disposal we fed everything down that thing. Had like 1 bag of garbage a week.
1/19/2012 11:04:47 AM
i dont hesitate to reach down there and clean it out real quick. the switch is on the wall, there's no chance of it coming on...or am i missing something?
1/19/2012 11:28:32 AM
my previous room mates (who were morons) had collections of things down there. I found cherry pits that actually prevented it from even moving, plenty of broken glass, and 1 lb of pasta once my least favorite part is the shit that has to get pulled out, but I am worried that some pissed off being will posses my garbage disposal on, but it that happens I can finally make my dream of chainsaw arm happen.. fuck yea
1/19/2012 11:29:55 AM
I very rarely have this happen because I don't use the garbage disposal much. But when I do, like 3-4.
1/19/2012 11:31:32 AM
1/19/2012 12:45:11 PM
everytime i've done this i'd say i was about a 7 or 8. idk why
1/19/2012 12:47:12 PM
0I probably have to fish something out of there 1-2 times/yr. Hell, every place I've lived that had a garbage disposal was plugged-in under the sink (not hard wired) and I wouldn't even bend at the waist to unplug it. Turning the circuit breaker off definitely requires too much effort
1/19/2012 12:48:02 PM
.... I do this all the time. and I don't throw the breaker. I just make sure the damn thing is switched off and no one is anywhere near the switch I AM NOT AFRAID
1/19/2012 1:46:21 PM
i said 7 or 8 but i don't throw the breaker so i guess thats more like 2 or 3?[Edited on January 19, 2012 at 1:49 PM. Reason : final destination!]
1/19/2012 1:47:54 PM
1/19/2012 1:48:55 PM
Probably an 8. Fuck that shit. I don't do it, but I'd probably throw the breaker.
1/19/2012 1:50:47 PM
1/19/2012 2:35:09 PM
If I ever have to get something out of it - and cannot do so with tongs or something like that - I'll not only throw the breaker, but I'll take it apart from the bottom - fuck sticking my hand in there at all[Edited on January 19, 2012 at 2:44 PM. Reason : I also don't walk on grates in streets and parking lots - fuck them too]
1/19/2012 2:43:24 PM
My Mom was cleaning out the garbage disposal once, and inadvertently hit the switch herself... Lots of cuts all over her knuckles, but surprisingly not too much damage.
1/19/2012 2:47:51 PM
^pics or it didn't happen
1/19/2012 2:49:17 PM
1/19/2012 2:49:42 PM
^^No pics of my Mom, cause it really wasn't that bad... However, do not google image search "hand in garbage disposal" or it may raise your freak out number up a bit.
1/19/2012 2:52:00 PM
i turn off the breaker and use a osha approved lockout/tagout device to ensure my safetynah, i've never even lived anywhere with a garbage disposal.
1/19/2012 2:54:08 PM
Around a 2 and I don't flip the breaker either.
1/19/2012 3:06:28 PM
6.5I mostly have the irrational fear that someone's going to walk into the kitchen, say hello to me, ask me why I'm working in such dim light, and then mistakenly flip the garbage disposal switch
1/19/2012 3:09:42 PM
Don't have a garbage disposal, but i always get freaked out when i do electrical work. Even though i flip the breaker I still get uncomfortable when installing ceiling fans and whatnot.
1/19/2012 3:11:36 PM
i never banged Squirt
1/19/2012 3:32:39 PM
I once had a roommate who was a completely dipshit. As such I constantly had to fish bottle caps and pennies out of the disposal on a regular basis. WTF mate I was quite pleased when my house broken dog one day decided to take a shit in his bedroom
1/19/2012 3:43:02 PM
I wouldn't say it freaks me out, its just annoying having to stick you hand in there. Even more annoying because I never let anything down in there myself. Roommates however have supplied it with plenty of bottle caps, shot glasses, forks, spoons, knives, etc.[Edited on January 19, 2012 at 3:54 PM. Reason : ^ pennies, wtf?]
1/19/2012 3:50:06 PM
1/19/2012 3:56:48 PM
0.01 dont be a pussy
1/19/2012 4:03:40 PM
I don't use the garbage disposalI just throw any old food/scraps in the trash or in the woods.[Edited on January 19, 2012 at 4:10 PM. Reason : ]
1/19/2012 4:09:38 PM
About a 4. The switch is almost directly in front of me so someone would have to reach past me to accidentally turn it on. I'd have to go all the way out to the garage to flip the breaker, screw that.
1/19/2012 4:38:07 PM
you should never put meat or grease in the disposal
1/19/2012 4:38:39 PM
I put my meat in the garbage disposal all the time.
1/19/2012 5:22:27 PM
1/19/2012 9:18:17 PM
1/19/2012 9:19:01 PM
NOT PUTTING MY HAND IN THE GARBAGE DISPOSALI had one at my last house and took it out because shot glasses and bottle caps and shit kept fallign in and jamming it up.New house is on private septic tank, so no garbage disposal, which is fine with me.
1/19/2012 9:20:29 PM
Try not having a garbage disposal and you will learn to freeze your scraps
1/19/2012 9:23:26 PM
1/19/2012 9:28:01 PM
set them UP
1/19/2012 9:32:13 PM
