Truffle fries are delicious. You're wrong.
2/28/2012 9:54:01 AM
I've had some truffle oil fries before...and they were the most delicious things ever.Having said that...some chefs use that shit a little too much. It can elevate a dish if it's used correctly...but don't just put that shit one everything.
2/28/2012 9:55:56 AM
Most 'chefs' use fake truffle oil that doesn't even have any truffles. The real shit is much more rare and expensive, and only the really classy places use it.

one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth (and trust me, that list is long) is the poutine at an awesome restaurant here in Cincy. truffle fries, local cheese curds, braised shortribs, and gravy. it is indescribably good. also, the truffle butter served with bread at jeff ruby's restaurants is also in my top 25 on the things-I've-put-in-my-mouth list.

the only way to use truffle oil is to not use it, or to use more restraint that you think in any way necessary.some people love that shit though, thinking they're eating truffles instead of some manufactured scent.OMG LOOK AT ME I LIKE TRUFFLESbishplz

^ real truffle[-infused] oil is flavored/scented artificially? i thought, um, it was infused with real truffles?
2/28/2012 10:07:40 AM
synthesized is most prevalent.

Truffle mac at Noodles Co. is quite tasty. Fake ass truffle oil and all.
2/28/2012 10:19:26 AM

2/28/2012 10:37:24 AM
I have noticed that using truffle oil on Chopped (the food network show) is guaranteed to get you sent home. Its presence appears to be a trap.
2/28/2012 10:40:11 AM
^ Most of those idiots don't cook with it, they just drizzle it on top.I've seen it used once to where it actually helped the contestant. I don't remember the context of the use though.
2/28/2012 10:45:09 AM

Crack fries:http://www.eatatmarket.com/Yes they use the fake truffle oil. A bar a block from us has truffled popcorn as a bar snack. They use real truffles and grate the shit out of them over the top.
