Check http://www.technicianonline.com/ and you can see a PDF of the printed version. It ran without that distinction.Photographers have lost their jobs for much less. Marking it as "photo illustration" may make the case for "well, I technically...." but it's still considered unethical. It's basically telling a lie, and then in fine print underneath it saying "hey I told a lie." Most people aren't reading that.As a single occurrence at a student newspaper, it should be chalked up as a mistake and move on. However, if a paper makes a habit out of something like this and allows it to happen more than once, it can ruin credibility.
