IMO -- don't waste your time buying a cookware set. Because you aren't going to pay a shitload of money, you are going to get some cheapo stuff. Now, if you dont plan on cooking a lot / don't really give a shit, that's probably okbut you really don't need a whole set anyway -- here's what I recommend:go to the Restaurant Supply Store on Saunders (http://www.ureco.com/)Get yourself a 12" saute pan. A nice sauce pan with a thick bottom. A big pot for stocks/boiling pasta/whatever. Optionally, get a cast iron pan, because you can do a lot of things in a cast iron. You can get nice stuff for cheap -- it won't be flashy, or copper bottomed, or any of that shit, but they are usually thicker/heavier than the stuff you get in a cookware set, and will last you a lot longer.75% of the stuff me and the gf use regularly have come from this place -- highly recommend.

^ Awesome, thanks for the adviceI gave away most of the crap (and it was) I had when I moved so I don't have much of anything at the moment, but I do have a cast iron pan I love.I don't really care how fancy it is as long as it's quality.

^^^ +1I do a lot of cooking, and i'd say 80% of what I do is in my 12" cast iron skillet. 19% is a split between my 4 quart pot and 12" stainless steel pan. The remaining 1% is a cheap aluminum stock pot with steamer basket (steaming vegetables for purees) and a 7 quart enameled stock pot (I make big batches of soup every once in a while). Also for utensils. I've been surprised that my favorite's are the cheapest ones I bought. I had two pairs of tongs, 1 is the cheap metal tongs you can buy in any dollar store, the other was an expensive set with rubber handles and a heavy spring. The rubber melted off eventually and the spring gave me hand cramps when I made large quantities of food that required constant flipping. I stopped using it and stick with the cheap ones and they work great. Also, if you don't buy the coated non-stick pans you don't have to worry about scratching shit and can stick with metal utensils. I like this just so I can leave the spatula/spoon/fork/etc. on or in the pan which keeps it from dripping hot liquid all over my kitchen.[Edited on March 2, 2013 at 3:20 PM. Reason : ]
