can someone make a reasoned argument in favor of a couple sharing an email address or Facebook account? I find myself hating these people instantly and I would like to try to understand their perspective.

Specifically to annoy you.
1/10/2014 11:49:43 AM
its what losers do. the bums will always lose

We created a gmail account for our wedding RSVPs. It got deleted as soon as we were done with it. Otherwise it makes me cringe.
1/10/2014 11:50:25 AM
^ were you two on Google+? Did you endorse some pages?
1/10/2014 11:51:50 AM
I, too, instantly hate these people.
1/10/2014 11:52:31 AM
No. Just an email address for the RSVPs.
1/10/2014 11:52:50 AM
i don't get it. it's not like you have to pay for a facebook account.
1/10/2014 11:56:10 AM
my other half doesn't use facebook (despite having an account), so people contact me instead. but fuck putting both names on the account, that shit's awful. and NO to sharing email addresses, even if both people read both.[Edited on January 10, 2014 at 12:03 PM. Reason : v haha, i have like four emails ]
1/10/2014 11:56:30 AM
But then where would you hide your booty call requests?
1/10/2014 11:56:39 AM
We created a joint gmail account when planning our wedding and have kept it ever since. It's mostly to manage things that concern the both of us equally; bills, invitations, and stuff for the kids. Its also nice because we use the calendar. Instead of having a big family calendar hanging on the wall, we just each use our joint account for to schedule appointments, reminders, etc.It saves us from having to forward a bunch of shit back and forth and keeps me from having to remind her, and vice versa, every time something comes up that concerns the two of us.
1/10/2014 11:57:42 AM
but you can add things to a shared google calendar without sharing an account
1/10/2014 11:58:55 AM
Yes. You can. I did that when I lived with zorthage and ambrosia1231
1/10/2014 11:59:29 AM
because some people don't trust their spouses and they're afraid they're going to use fb to hook-up with other people.

Meh, we already had a joint account set-up, so why delete it and create a separate shared calendar? And while I'll argue against hatred for joint e-mail accounts, joint Facebook accounts are probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Its right up there with people who create accounts for their pets, or their kids, or who use pics of their pets or kids as profile pictures.
1/10/2014 12:04:43 PM
I know one couple who does this where the woman used to go in and change the guy's profile photo to a pic with both of them in it when they were dating any time he would put up one of just him. Now they're married. Good luck with that, guy.
1/10/2014 12:05:44 PM
We have a joint gmail for the purpose of bills and other shared household stuff. It started with the wedding, but in reality is barely used now.
1/10/2014 12:10:04 PM
eh, the facebook famous pets is probably driving a lot of people to do the pet account thing. if you dress your pet up and take pictures every day, cool. if you only post an update every three months when the pet destroys something, lame.
1/10/2014 12:10:37 PM
Its probably just what he wants. A buddy of mine I used to hang out with in high school and get drunk with in college had an over-controlling mom. He couldn't ever find a girl he was happy with until he met a control freak. They've been married for years now.I think some guys would rather live with the shitty decisions their spouse makes than have to make their own.

You can have more than 1 email. Like a joint e-mail AND a personal e-mail.
1/10/2014 5:18:24 PM
I also hate people who won't make accounts, and they're like "hey, could you send this message to this person on this service".I know that remembering passwords is hard. Figure it out.

^^^They are living a great and active life, doing what they love, and best of all, they get to do those activities with someone who loves them and loves to do those activities with them. Why does it bother you? Why do some people read such stories of happy couples doing amazing and/or adventurous stuff and then lambaste them... obviously because they are jealous as hell and wish they had a similar life where they were actually enjoying life doing awesome stuff, and enjoying it with someone they love and who loves them back and loves doing the same awesome stuff.

My cousin and his wife do this. Although they are mid-thirties....

My grandparents have a joint FB account, because they are in their 80s and don't need separate accounts. But my brother and his wife have a joint account now because ^. He does EVERYTHING around the house and calls his wife "The Princess". Ugh, what a pussy-whipped bitch.
1/10/2014 7:08:59 PM
Girlfriend of one my friends was super jealous of any woman who spoke to him, so she removed her account and now they share his. They didn't change the name, so I get confused by "his" posts now. I guess its not really sharing, its more like she just took over his account to fend off all the whores chasing him. Thats how she refers to any ex or woman he has slept with, or any women she just doesn't like.
1/10/2014 7:14:57 PM
Seth, do you use settledown2000@gmail.com for your business correspondence?[Edited on January 10, 2014 at 7:18 PM. Reason : ^ that is the kind of shit that makes me really glad I don't have to date women]
1/10/2014 7:15:13 PM
yes. business and tits.
1/10/2014 7:23:50 PM
you guys are just jealous you can't get your relationship to a level where two have become one.
1/12/2014 11:08:30 AM
^Shit no. I'm glad we have our own identities and are mature enough that we can do so and still trust each other. She posts stuff that I don't always agree with (or do but don't care enough to post that shit on FB and rile others up that disagree) as I mainly just use FB to post photos and keep up with old friends. I hate the couple of family members we have who aren't retired and post regularly on one account as its almost impossible to keep up with who you are talking to, or your having a conversation with the one person and their spouse interjects into the discussion. Ugh.

Happy Birthday JosephandSarah!Whichever one of you got to put their birthday down on your FB profile.Or neither of you if you used your anniversary date or some other bullshit.[Edited on January 12, 2014 at 11:49 AM. Reason : l]

My mom is too lazy to deal with e-mail. The internet service, phone, tv, etc are all under my dad's name. She doesn't even try to use her own e-mail. I had to help her set up a g-mail for her smart phone, but she doesn't use it. She just looks at my dad's e-mail and has everything important from our family sent there. She says that's easier. He gets annoyed when she buys a bunch of stuff online and all of the receipts fill up his e-mail. They both use the same facebook too because he's not too into facebook, but likes seeing the photos of the grandchildren. The facebook only has my mom's name on it though.[Edited on January 12, 2014 at 12:13 PM. Reason : .]

i like Frank and Jane's back-and-forth answering machine message in The Naked Gun
1/12/2014 12:28:50 PM
I've only ever recommended it to one couple...my parents. My dad is completely computer retarded, and my mom is somewhat proficient. It would just be easier that way.
1/12/2014 2:28:21 PM
I once witnessed a very heated argument play out between two people on their shared Facebook wall. It was fun trying to figure out who was who. . and who was winning when they both shared an account.
1/13/2014 1:34:12 AM
Honestly i get it. I mean you can play the whole "well if we cant trust each other enough to have our own facebook accounts then we shouldn't be together" card... but at the same time the statistics show facebook is a big fucking temptation for most relationships and marriages.I mean couples in the past didn't have to deal with all these constant nagging reminders that there is other pussy out there. Facebook, texting, etc. It's a minefield to dodge every outlet for cheating right now. Things were a lot different when contacting your ex g/f or flame would've required real effort instead of just drunken typing or texting.I know one thing is for damn sure if i see a couple has a shared facebook page I'm not sending the girl a message of any kind. So right off the bat you're removing temptation from the relationship by getting less guys to blow up your girlfriend/wife...

Facebook and class reunions are the top places affairs start.I also have a theory that affairs were harder to catch before cell phone and the internet...like what is your wife gonna start poking around in when you are "working late" when you dont even have a cell phone.
