https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIVNeDuCF_k This may be one of the most terrifying videos of real life events I have ever seen. AI voiceover is unnecessary but damn. This looks like something out of an early 00s disaster movie. There is nothing any of these people could have done to survive.[Edited on August 26, 2026 at 8:54 AM. Reason : ]

The speed was unbelievable and you would never expect THAT much water. Poor folks... In one video, people are pausing while climbing up the hillside like "I think I might be good." They were not good.I wonder if there was any warning other than the earth rumbling beneath them [Edited on August 26, 2026 at 10:45 PM. Reason : ]

Apparently there was an earthquake that did something to a high flow river (or maybe a dam). I have just never seen anything like this -- the water was like 5 stories high. Even if they made it to a tall building, it looks like buildings were knocked down.

The USGS has come back and said that it wasn’t an earthquake, that what registered on the scale was the sheer force of the broken glacier hitting the ground.I agree with the OP - the most terrifying real-life view of anything I’ve ever seen. I’ve always seen walls of water moving toward someone in movies and thought to myself that would never be the case in real life.I was wrong.
