^^^yes that's the main point of the act. Stolen from a column I posted in SCOTUS thread
Quote :
"The demise of Section 2 of the VRA, which prohibited states from unlawfully splitting members of racial and language minority groups between electoral districts as a way of diluting their voting power, will have a profoundly adverse impact on voting rights and will make American democracy even less representative than it already is. "

Also I'm not sure why cael quoted my post for all that

A lot to unpack here. I guess the 2 things that most caught my eye was dem leaning independents overwhelmingly dissatisfied with dems, and 52% of dems wanting to move to center to win

More wanting to move to center on immigration and lgbtq+, than to the left, gets an honorable mention

I think the argument the lefties would make is we have went to the center and it got us trump, and that all the energy and enthusiasm to show up this cycle is on the left end of the party. Thats fair to an extent. I say give them what they want this cycle. Best case scenario they win, worst case...we don't listen to them in the future

Why is it that if the left loses once and they're done forever, but the center can lose over and over and over?

moving to the center is actually moving to the right

there is no reason to take rights away from people. it’s a total non-starter.

[Edited on May 25, 2026 at 10:51 AM. Reason : looks like Becerra currently has the odds]

He's a darling for people like me and you but doesn't seem to be catching on, definitely won't make it to the last 2. Beccera doesn't inspire, steyer is buying his way to the runoff and is trying to out-left the field, and Hilton...those are top 3 vote getters i think

" “Trans folks are people, and we owe them the ability to protect them and their rights,” Becerra said, emphasizing that there are “probably more Americans getting hit by lightning than trans Americans wanting to play in girls sports.”

He suggested that Californians have already spoken on the transgender issue in sports after state lawmakers rejected bills to ban trans athlete's participation in girls sports.

“Does the sports federation, does the school district say it's possible? If they say it's possible, that means the community has said yes,” Becerra said while reminding Californian’s his background in fighting for marginalized communities long before it was a popular idea.
"

Quote :
" “This is an exceedingly rare situation in practice, but one for which sports leagues ought to have the space to work with their stakeholders (players, parents, coaches, etc.) to set and consistently apply eligibility requirements.”

“For my son’s younger recreational soccer team, I don’t see this ever being a relevant issue and I think it would be exceedingly unfair to bar transgender youth from participating,” wrote Mahan. “For my daughter’s competitive league, in which young women routinely earn scholarships and go on to play in college, this could be a real question. Title IX helped create long-overdue opportunities for women and girls in athletics, and those protections and opportunities should be protected.
"

They all answer the question basically the same way.
